Letter "C" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 12 and Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures
This Week's Prompts Starts with "C." A Favorite.
For Tom "C"loud.
For James Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures.
_ _ _ _
Starts with"C": Well, I 'have' a Corvette. Last week, the "B" post, I mentioned that a Corvette was on my Buckett List. Yes, I 'have' it, a toy, but it belongs to my younger daughter, a Barbie Doll Corvette. She left it here with most of her toys.
From left to right, my inherited watch, Mrs. Jim's father's clock, and my grandfather's pocket watch. Grandpa had hocked this clock when he needed to come back to Nebraska after having found the soil was for miserable farming soil, full of rocks as well.
Mrs. Jim inherited these traveling clocks.
This clock was in the kitchen of our farmhouse growing up. My parents received it as a wedding present. Note in its location photo, left, is another clock in the upper right, possibly my grandparents.
Mrs. Jim inherited these three furniture top clocks as well.
Mrs. Jim inherited the antique clock on the left, the history is on the note behind the front door, see below. We purchased the newer Emperor clock on the right. I had to assemble it from mail order although they were also selling these models in kit form.
A Favorite: Mrs. Jim has a nice Clock Collection for an amateur.
The note on the door on the bottom left above was pasted on.
It tells that the History a little of the Antique clock above to the left. The note reads,
Thomas Whipp (maker), Rochdale Long case clocks, 1820-1842 (sources I found said "circa 1770")
Rochdale is 10 miles North of Manchester
Purchased in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, 5 July 1965
I have three clocks, an "atomic clock" still in a box, a Western Union rectangular wall clock pictured here, and the 'inherited watch' also above. Technically Grandpa's watch is mine as well as the kitchen clock in my growing up home. I inherited the wall clock. My parents, former owners, were married in 1932. The ones you are seeing are all in Mrs. Jim's collection.
May your dark clouds have silver linings! (my, Jimmiehov, photo)
Tom's "Cloud": Pretty Cloud Lining

Letter "Y" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 11 and Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures
This Week's Prompts Starts with "Y." A Favorite. "Y"ak. Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures.
_ _ _ _
It's time for my Christmas tree blog again this year. Today will be the sevententh when I post it, I started December 05, a Tuesday. Click here to see them for 2023-2 (part 2) and Here for 2023-1 (part 1).
Starts with "Y": Yummy stuff, a gift from a nice neighbor.
A Favorite: This is Mrs. Jim's favorite decoration for the season, he is her Santa's helper. Her college was LSU but it is hard to get LSU stuff here around Houston.
He stays either under our tree or on the hearth. We got him a few years ago at an After Christmas sale in Houston. One side of his sales tag says "Handmade" and the other's said "Made in China".
Tom's suggestion, "Yak": The Coasters, Yakety Yak. This song was an original hit in 1958. It was one of my favorites.
The Coasters Yakety Yak singing Lyrics 👇
Take out the papers and the trash
Or you don't get no spendin' cash
If you don't scrub that kitchen floor
You ain't gonna rock and roll no more
Yakety yak (don't talk back)
Just finish cleanin' up your room
Let's see that dust fly with that broom
Get all that garbage out of sight
Or you don't go out Friday night
Yakety yak (Don't talk back)
You just put on your coat and hat
And walk yourself to the laundromat
And when you finish doin' that
Bring in the dog and put out the cat
Yackety yack (Don't talk back)
Don't you give me no dirty looks
Your father's hip, he knows what cooks
Just tell your hoodlum friend outside
You ain't got time to take a ride
Yackety yack (Don't talk back)
Reflectionsand/or Street/Candid Captures: The top photo has the "banked" turtles reflection in the water. Not to brag about, the water was rippling.
The lower picture shows the heads of three buddy turtles swimming. Can you see them? There might be another two or more.
The turtles hang out around the bridge was standing on, it's our favorite walking path.

Letter "M" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 11 and Reflections and-or Street/Candid Captures
This Week's Prompts: Starts with "M.", A Favorite, "M"ini, and Street/Reflections
_ _ _ _
Starts with "M": "Minutes" to get downtown Houston in a morning with a average good traffic. We live in Katy on the left, I-10 with 44 Minutes. "Houston is the fourth larges city in the United States."
A Favorite: Houston Methodist Hospital West front entrance, scale model. Many nice cars, several old, toy cars. Perhaps I should will them mine, 27 or eight, plus a motorcycle, last count.
"Mini": Mini Skirts were the rage long ago, back then ladies liked to show off their pretty long legs. (even Mrs. Jim had one).
Like this forty-nine inch legged young lady:
(Remember the ZZ Top recording "She's got legs"**)
What do she and our family have in common? Highlight the answer in space below:
We are all from the Houston, Texas area
The young lady is 6 feet 4. Her 49 inch legs, from thigh to toe, may set a world record. For sure for Houston they did and probably are a record in Texas also. Things are bigger in Texas.
For sure too she would intimidate me if we were alone in an elevator. Ladies who are taller than me worry me.
Like a forty-nine inch legged young lady
Remember the ZZ Top recording "She's got legs"**
Street/Reflections: Our 2012-13 New Zealand Princes cruise ended up with us being in Sydney, Aus. We had a wonderful three and a half days there.
The large rubber duck out in the harbor was on loan, it left for China, I think, after we had left.
[You can see some more New Zealand, Australia and Sydney pictures that I've posted, pleaseclick here.]

..
** Note:
ZZ Top song, first verse:
.."Legs"
She's got legs, she knows how to use them. She never begs, she knows how to choose them. She's holdin' leg wonderin' how to feel them. Would you get behind them if you could only find them? She's my baby, she's my baby, yeah, it's alright.
- Tom's Requests: Starts with "W"; A Favorite; and Tom's suggestion, "W"ater.
- James' request, Reflections and/or Street Photos/Candid Captures.
_ _ _ _
The fellow on the bench is made of bronze
This kind of ducks also live near us three miles away over in a flood water retention green area
James' request, Reflections and/orStreet Photos/Candid Captures: I was at the library again this Wednesday and had an hour by myself to read, work my Sudoku, and work on getting this and my Poetry blog ready for Friday.
This lady who came along and sat across the aisle from me didn't ever say a word or look my way. She had to know I was taking ''water pictures" for Tom and James' Reflections. But she didn't even squint or flinch and look my way when I took this one.
Four-year-old KP was driving this Jeep. She's going on
fourteen next month. Check "KP Driving" label at the bottom.
When she gets her license she wants my '98 Mustang Convertible for school
Starts with"W": Women and Woman start with "W". We will discuss Women Drivers today.
1. One of the worst woman drivers I have ever known lived in El Paso, Texas. She ran a stop sign right in front of my Vespa motor scooter. I was riding it down a main thorough fare, she was coming out of a side street.
2. We were not traveling too awfully fast, each well within the speed limit. She just didn't stop at the stop sign.
3. So I ended up on the hood of her car. Both of my knees were sore for a long time but nothing was broken. The scooter needed quite a bit of repair. It turned out she did not have insurance for anything except collision (covered her own car). She had just purchased this Pontiac new and that is all the dealer had sold her.
4. She did fuss at me for being on the street. Then she said not only did I not have a right to be there with the scooter but that I was traveling without any lights on. The policeman told her that yes, I did have my lights on. When I pushed it out of the middle of the intersection the lights tried to come on until I took it out of gear.
5. The policeman agreed, he too had seen that.
6. The woman was put on probation for her driving and for not having liability insurance she could lose her license. I had to sign a paper that I would take payments from her for my damages, scooter and doctor, etc., I would notify the Court if she missed even one day on her payments. Needless to say, she was always on time in paying.
A Favorite: This was my dad's toy tractor and Wagon. Now, since Dad died in 2009 at age 97, the tractor is mine and the Grain Wagon belongs to my little sister, Lois. They are cast iron 1:18 scale models, the wagon has a wooden bed.
Dad's last real farm tractor was like this, an International Farmall M GTA, his wagons were older. The tractor has joined my other scale model cars, trucks, and tractors. Most are 1:18 scale, a few are 1:24 or smaller; I have around fifty of them.
Adults having fun in the water:
Playing beach ball in the water with the kids
Stealing from the kids -- rescuing lost golf balls that kids might have sold
These are balls rescued from the golf course, many came from the water, possible the water being held in the sand trap where Sam (not his real name) is raking for balls. He found several but not his own.
Tom's suggestion, "Water":
A Lagniappe: A Quiz; Describe in as few words as possible could describe the driver of the little grey car. (hint--my answer is one word)
Answer:Woman highlight the space to the left and see if you had the right answer.

_ _ _ _
Starts with "H": A Quiz, "What is going on here? (starts with'H'") You could make in a few words in the comments a story to tell us what you think.
A help, highlight the blank area from here to
:)
Partial help: A man is hiding behind a tree.
"Hide" starts with "H."
as does "Hiding".
:)
to here. When you've developed your story, compare it with mine.
I'd be delighted to have you tell us about your version in the comments below.
Note: I have opened my comment section to "Anonymous readers" so anyone can leave a comment. If you don't mind I would love for you to share your version there. Remember, I'm pledging mine to be fairly true. I originally posted this in 2009, linked below.
Tom's suggestion, "Heavy": This Brown Bear is too Heavy to be sitting on the little fellow behind him.
The Tin Rooster and his Friends, Lady Hens, for your garden
A Favorite: A rooster and a couple of his Hen Chickens found in the Garden Section of our "one mile-away" H.E.B. Grocery Store. You can read more about him Here.
"Grass Cutting Day", at the county premises
Reflections and/or Street Photos/Candid Captures: The fellow above Hiding behind the tree isn't really Hiding, as a jail inmate he is Helping the grounds keeper.
[my Photo, more 'Tin Chickens"]
A Lagniappe: Some of the other H.E.B. Chickens.
Another Lagniappe: My "H" Countries I've visited are Hong Kong and Hungary (I may remove Hong Kong, the Winter Olympics counted them as still being a country entry.) (my country list, click its URL)
