Letter "D" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 11 and Reflections and-or Street/Candid Captures

"D" for Dark (Tom's choice): Here at right is the picture of The International Dateline that I took from the flight attendants' window on our way home from Sydney, Australia. It was at night, Dark, and my camera did not pick up a good photo. But having a photo of an invisible object is better than not seeing it at all. (Read more here...)

Our Guest
She spends her mornings in our front yard
That's where the shade is in the mornings
Where the shade is in the afternoons
In the afternoons this duck's across the street
She's across the street where the shade is then
She drinks sprinkler water from the street
I worry about the water in the street
Has washed fertilizer from the soil
Fertilizer from the soil tastes not good
She drinks it anyway that's all she's got
All she's got but needs it for her eggs
She'll hatch them in a shadow box nest
Her chicks after they're born will leave the nest
She'll spend her mornings in our front yard again

Starts with 'D': Duck starts with "D". One Muscovy Duck hen has left her flock along running water stream to make a nest up here in our neighbor's second story shadow box above their garage.
I don't know if she'll try for 14 to 18 baby ducks to hatch or not. The neighbor said there are only two eggs, that was three, but he found a third smashed on the pavement below.
Do you know the incubation period for Muscovy Duck eggs is 35 days instead of all other ducks whose are about 28? Muscovy duck's eggs are also larger.
A Favorite: A 1984 Dodge 600 Convertible. One like this was my play car but it had a sad ending. I had it for several years, I bought it used, about six or eight years old, from the local dealers used car lot, and paid six or eight hundred dollars for it. It was in fairly low mileage and in good condition and had the 4-cylinder engine, with the Mitsubishi-built 2.6 L 4-cylinder which was available as an option. We drove it a lot, kind of all over the eastern third of Texas.
My car ended in repair shop, I'd taken it in for a leaking water pump and an overdue timing belt replacement. All done, the mechanic took it out for the evening. Drunk, coming home he totaled it out. He was jailed and didn't know us. The next morning I had a call seeing if my car was still own by me or was it stolen. The driver, the mechanic, was suspected of stealing it.

(Oh yes, the attendants had the exact time that we would be crossing so finding it was no problem, it was right below. Dah.)
Reflections and/or Street Photos/Candid Captures: The white glob in the window is an unwanted Reflection.
I was in the waiting room in my doctor's office taking a picture of I-10 feeder road, west out of Houston across the pond and didn't know of the glob until later. The water reflection was not so hot either because of ripples caused by the breeze.

A Favorite: Our Neighbor has a Corvette. I've always wanted one, since back in the sixties. I've driven my son's but that is my extent. I am stuck with being a Mustang person, I have two of those, a 1998 GT Convertible and my mom's 1974 Mustang II Ghia, both are low mileage considering their age.

[A nice Old hotel in Wales]  Lagniappe: More Wales, "we visited Northern Wales for about a week in 2014, took the train from London to Shrewsbury, U.K, rented a car, and stayed at B&B's in and around Barmouth, Wales. Then still in the U.K, we stopped to visit with friends at Northampton by train after turning the car back in at Shrewsbury." We booked up the street at a B&B place through Booking.Com. and spent a short week. We had booked with them quite frequently before and still as they are domestic an international, plus discounted prices on many. |

Letter "T" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 08 / Reflections and-or Street Captures
This Week's Prompts: Starts with "T"; A Favorite; Tom's word; "Tall"; and Reflections and/or Street Captures.

Starts with "T": "Therapy" starts with the Letter "T". Mrs. Jim's breathing Therapist said that for older folk "Climbing our Stairs" once every two hours would be a good maintenance habit for both our legs and our lungs. It would also remind us to breathe properly. I.e. use our diaphragm for deep breathing.
Our Beagle dog, Adi, was a Therapy Dog. We were a registered Pet Therapy Team. Adi loved visiting in the local assisted home, the Alzheimer's residents there loved her visits.
Adi died in September 2012.
A Favorite: "Tea". Before they invented "Diet Coke" Tea was my go to drink other than water.
Tom's word, "Tall": Things are Taller in Texas, even our statues. These are my Nebraska cousins when the marveled while visiting in 2006. Some of you may have seen their photo before, I use it on my blog. The statue is of Sam Houston, our first Texas President. It is 67 feet Tall sitting on a ten-foot-high base.
Reflections and/or Street Captures. The Trees I was seeing while eating my lunch one day in April. That is a Louisiana Swamp Cypress in the foreground and on the right you can see the Cypress Tree Knots sticking up through the water.
This is the view from a bench at the south side of our library, one of the Fort Bend County (Texas) Library System buildings at Katy, Texas.
Lagniappe # 1: Tomatoes start with "T". Aren't these pretty. They are $1.47 per pound at our local Kroger grocery store.

Letter "T" -- -- Weekend Roundup
THE TWENTIETH LETTER FOR THIS SERIES - The Letter "T" Prompts are: (A) Starts with the Letter "T"; (B) "Top" (Tom's Choice); (C) A Favorite; and (D) A Lagniappe.
(C.1) A Favorite: Here are some of my favorited cast iron 1:18 scale Toys, all Fords, all Tops Down.
(D.1) A Lagniappe: Two at the Veterans Day Recognition at our youngest granddaughter's junior high school.

(A) Starts with the Letter "T": Tea is my letter "T" starting word. This is Mrs. Jim's Teacart which she inherited from her long time ago early in the workforce boss. Mrs. Jim is a Social Worker, now retired since 1999.
We were home, our old home (1999-2015)!
(B) "Top" (Tom's Choice): My 1998 Ford Mustang GT, Top Down. [Click on most any picture to make it large size. Click again for super large]
(C.1) A Favorite: Here are some of my favorited cast iron 1:18 scale Toys, all Fords, all Tops Down. I've had as drivers, cars near these, the 1956 Ford Sunliner Convertible new, mine was green and white. Back row, left to right, 1956, 1937, 2003, and front a 1964 Ford Mustang.
(C.2) A Favorite: Toy Taxi Cab that I had when I was a small boy. (story of its gift to me HERE)
Later I had left it outside after play and my father crushed it to pieces, not repairable, with his tractor while mowing.
(D.1) A Lagniappe: Two at the Veterans Day Recognition at our youngest granddaughter's junior high school.

(D.2) Another Lagniappe: My Two Feet on our 1980's digital Taylor scale. Those who know me may be able to notice that I've lost some weight, ten to fifteen pounds. That also makes me look older in the face.
They have won several beauty foot and feet contests, mine for the Ugliest Feet entered. [They might scare you if you clicked once or twice on them!!]

Letter "N" -- -- Weekend Roundup and Street/Reflections
THE FOURTEENTH LETTER FOR THIS SERIES - The Letter "N" Prompts are: (A) Starts with the Letter "N"; (B) "Nuts" (Tom's Choice); (C) A Favorite; (D) Street/Reflections; and (E) A Lagniappe.
(B) "Nuts" (Tom's Choice): Above, this is a small bag of small Nuts and Washers. 
I was the youngest Setup Man they ever had, I think my "some college" helped quite a bit.

(A) Starts with the Letter "N": The word, "New", starts with Letter "N". We have a New "Judge Judy" type program here in the Houston (Texas) area called "Relative Justice".
It is on local TV Channel 39 and it's law suits are between Family Members. Sort of okay, I liked Judge Judy better, she is hard to imitate. So far we have watched only one program.
They are from my large box of Bolts, Nuts, Washers, and Screws. It was a gift to me, probably for Christmas. The box is pictured on the right.
When I dropped out of college, U of Nebraska, I needed a job so that I could give my father back his pickup. I didn't tell him until I found a job.
The job that I found was at Elgin National Watch Company, there in Lincoln, Nebraska. A part of the aptitude test was to screw on a whole bunch of Nuts onto bolts sticking out of a wooden box. I screwed on every Nut there was before my time went out. I could do this job with both hands which helped me a lot there.
I stayed on at Elgin until I was drafted into the service three years later. I did well at the factory, I hired on as a Degreaser Operator and after about 15 months was promoted to Setup Man with a line of 16 workers to keep happy with parts to work and well adjusted and sharp, if it involved cutting or stamping, equipment.
(C) A Favorite: Do Not Worry. I won't be climbing into that junk. A New Nashville (Tennessee) project doesn't need all this cement and dirt.
(D) Street/Reflections: A Vanderbilt student on it's Nashville campus.
He seems to be hurrying, I was taught to respect those folk with that type motivation.
(E.1) A Lagniappe: Normality like aura in a crowded Nashville setting.
(E.2) A Lagniappe: Six "N" countries we've visited:
Netherland, informally called Holland(yes) — Aruba(yes), Curaçao(yes), the Netherlands (island - no), and Saint Maarten(yes)—are constituent countries, we've not been to "The Kingdom of The Netherlands"(no) Island Country itself.

The Letter "F" -- Weekend Roundup and Reflections
The thirty-first issue of Weekend Roundup for this year, 2020...
(THE SIXTH LETTER FOR THIS SERIES)

(C) A Favorite; and
(D) Reflections.

(A) Starts with the Letter "F": "Ford" begins with the Letter "F". This is a picture of a 1941 Ford Pickup from my truck calendar for 2020. I am not sure why my scanner did make me a color copy.
My Grandfather H. had a 3/4 ton 1941 Ford pickup that he used to haul his horses. Grandpa had a male breeding horse that the neighbors would 'board' for a half day, more or less. Sometimes I would ride with him when he was 'making rounds.'
The time I remember best was when my little sister, Lois, was born at home. I was five and Grandpa came to our farm home to get me for riding. He did sometimes take me for rides in his car also.

I have owned three pickup trucks, a 1972 and a 1975 Datsun, and a 1986 Chevy S-10. They all treated me right, I have the grill from one hanging in our garage. I have not owned a Ford pickup, but many Fords (click list of cars I owned).
I worked for Ford Aerospace for 17 years and bought several as returns, one year old, from upper Ford executive perk rentals. Those cars were two 1976 Granadas, a 1969 Thunderbird, and a 1974 Mustang II Ghia. I bought from Ford new a 1967 Station Wagon and a 1972 Pinto. Three of the cars, the Pinto were totaled by the Tropical Storm Claudia flooding.
(B) "Full" (Tom's Choice): This Coke Float makes for a Glass Full.
(B) "Full": About Half Full of my boyhood marbles. This is the butter churn we used on the farm before we sold cream to the local creamery. It sits on the night stand in our guest room.
A lot of my marbles were Hand-me-downs from telatives making them over one hundred years old. The ones I got with my money could be over eighty.
I didn't have other kids to play shooting marbles with and lose so i accumulated quite a few.
(D) Reflections: I took the marbles in a churn pictires in the guest room bath. The mirror is against the wall as is the shower beside the vanity.
It wasnt intended for a Reflection but it will be different than my usual ponds and buildings. And lo and behold another with the mirror caught me as a selfie. [click picture for larger size, click again for super sized]
