Letter "R" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 08 / Reflections and-or Street Captures

The "R" Week's prompts:  Starts with "R"; A Favorite; and "R"oof

Starts with "R": "Rainbow" starts with "R".  This display was for St. Patrick's Day, March 18, on our trans-Atlantic cruise.  Mrs. Jim came down with the COVID-19 on the 17th, I was Positive on the 22nd.

That 17th, the 6th day ruined the rest of our 16 Day cruise.  Mrs. Jim was "isolated" in the 'isolation ward' for the rest of the time, plus another day at the Holiday Inn Express in Portsmouth in the U.K.  I had to spend the entire week there (so we both stayed, but Mrs. Jim could walk around outside).

Rainbows, the sign of the covenant between God and the earth (the Bible, Gensis 9:14-17 [link])

A FavoriteThe Real Thing, a Real Rainbow.  Our back yard from 1999 until 2015, the Green for Hole # 11 on the Weiskopf.   I could see that it had dropped down into a sand trap on #15.

Lagniappe # 1:
This one's our daughter Karen's Race Car, it's
a 1982 or so Pine Wood Derby Racer, we still have it
.
Karen did most of the work, Mrs. Jim and I were  consultants for her.
.
She won first place. Of course technology has improved since then so it probably couldn't keep up with the modern cars. Dad (me) was the chief speed advisor, he drives fast too (160mph on the German Autobahn,) for her project. Mrs. Jim did the fashion painting advice. Karen did [most of] the work.
.
Please enlarge the picture by clicking on it so you can see the driver pretty good. The driver is a piece of lead fishing weight, carved to precision weight with the car weighing 1 ounce less than the maximum.
.
The paint is acrylic blue with a red, green, and blue butterfly on the hood. There's a rainbow at the rear, and some green growth with a flower on the deck lid. If we were smart, we could have sensed a tree-hugger growing up here with us.
.
Weight distribution is 63% in the rear wheels, 37% up front. The uplift in the back functioned better than a spoiler in keeping the car hugging the track surface. Many cars tipped and fell off or tumbled, hers went straight down the slotted hill track.
.
Also compare it with Cliff's grandson's car (link for enlargement, link for Tuesday, April 24, blog post with the picture and write up). His car did good too!
.
It would be interesting to race these two cars now, '82 model vs. '07. Twenty-five years difference!

Comments:
glad ya are back, hope all is well, I got the Covid 19 in Feb 14.

Hi Jim, Nice to see you here, I hope all is well. I love rainbows, but couldn't find one to put in my post. My brother always did the Pinewood Derby! Have a great week. Dawn

...as they say "no RAIN, no RAINBOWS!" I'm sorry about your COVID, that's why we are staying close to home. The RED ROOFS, not to be confused with the motel chain are neat. I hope that all is well with you.

Back from your travels but not too successful having to isolate so much Jim. Love both rainbows and that guy at the end of it does not look too happy that you took his photograph. Hope you have a great week ahead

Sorry you got COVID. Sure is good to have you back. Enjoyable post. Love the rainbow!

Welcome back!
I enjoyed your post and photos. It's a shame that you had to spend your trip in isolation. I'm curious what made you think you got it from unmasked folk in the elevator?
