This Week's Prompts: Has an "X"; A Favorite; Tom's request, "Xword" and For James, Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures.
_ _ _ _
Has an "X": Her name is Marceline (after the "l" I guessed).
Our new great great niece is Extra cute, Extra small, and Extra happy. For the picture she was just newborn. At birth she weighed 4 lbs 13 oz and was 17 inches long.
Tom's request, an"Xword": Before my knee joint replacement surgery I'm having a bunch of X-rays. Soon after that I hope not to need this wrist band.
For James, Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures: I can't remember the port our ship was pulling into or could be leaving. Overseas for sure.

Letter "W" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 12 and Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures
This Week's Prompts: Starts with "W"; A Favorite; Tom's request, "Weather" and For James, Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures.
_ _ _ _
Starts with "W": Write starts with a "W".
I write for my readers more than for myself.
For this reason, I still do the alphabet, but I'm thinking not after we reach the letter "Z" here.
Most of the four or so that respond to Tom don't return my comment left after reading theirs. I like comments from them. As I write this on Sunday night there have been NO COMMENTS left here on this blog for the last two weeks.
But most of my faithful readers are friends and relatives of whom I don't expect comments, not many at least. That said, I intend to keep on writing on weekends, kind of a report on the things that our family and I are doing. I THANK YOU VERY MUCH, you friends and relatives.
And Tom, I thank you very much too for supporting us faithful ones who respond. I may switch to another of your blogs.
A Favorite and Street/Candid Captures: Waiting for her ride, granddaughter.

Tom's request, "Weather": Sunshine after the rain. Cooled it down, 87F now, it was 96F before.

Letter "T" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 12 and Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures
This Week's Prompts: Starts with "T"; A Favorite; Tom's request, "T"rio; and For James, Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures.
_ _ _ _
Starts with "T": Trees, they fell right and left during out during our really rough thunderstorms.
"HOUSTON (AP) — Power outages could last weeks in parts of Houston, an official warned Friday, after thunderstorms with hurricane-force winds tore through the city, knocking out electricity to nearly 1 million homes and businesses in the region, blowing out windows on downtown high rises and flipping vehicles.
The National Weather Service said it confirmed a tornado with peak winds of 110 mph (177 kph) touched down near the northwest Houston suburb of Cyprus in Harris County.
Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, the county’s top elected official, said crews were still trying to determine the extent of the damage and the number of casualties from Thursday’s storms. Houston Mayor John Whitmire said four people, and possibly five, had died.
“It was fierce. It was intense. It was quick, and most Houstonians didn’t have time to place themselves out of harms way,” Whitmire said at a news conference."

A fine "Trio", Me (Jim), Ado. and Mrs. Jim [A trio of three make for a pair. Two Pet therapy teams.]
Tom's request, "T"rio: This is a picture of our dog, Adi with Mrs. Jim and I in 2005. She was a purebred female tri-color beagle.
Adi was our younger daughter's dog. She had thought her new apartment allowed dogs but then she found that they did not allow beagles. So Adi had to come to live with us. That is me, Jim, on the right, and Mrs. Jim on the left. All three of us had just passed our therapy dog examinations. Whew! This is Montgomery Intermediate school, where all three of us would tutor sixth grade reading students. That year Adi and I also visited folks in an assisted living home on Tuesday afternoons. She was well liked there. We heard a lot of dog tales (worked to be a pun here) from these residents, mainly about dogs that had to stay at their former homes or were in their earlier lives.
A Favorite: Adi is retiring from Pet Partners .
. Dear Jim,
Thank you for notifying us. We will be sure to honor Adi's past contribution to our Pet Partners Therapy Animal Program in our Interactions Magazine, and "Pet Partners, Retired" on our web page.
Warm Regards, Kelly Schnitzmeier
-----Original Message----- From: (Jim and Mrs. Jim) Sent: Tuesday, August 07, 2012 6:56 PM To: Info (Pet Partners Headquarters) Subject: Retirement Information Request
To whom it might concern:
My dog and I will not be renewing our certification this year.
Adi, the dog, is now 16 years old and has two major problems which make it hard for her to visit. First, she is VERY hard of hearing. Second, she has severe arthritis in her back legs.
I would like to have her classified as being retired if that is possible for us.
Dog: Adi Breed: Tri-color Beagle, a female Age: 16
Co-team member: James Hov... (me) ID #: 51...
When we first started my wife, (Mrs. Jim) was also certified with Adi. Due to her having many other volunteer responsibilities she was unable to continue with Pet Partners. She was active though, while a member. Mostly she and Adi tutored reading students who needed help.
Wife, former co-team member: (Mrs. Jim -- ID # 51...)

Additionally, I do thank you for the certificate you sent of in appreciation of our work together, Adi and me. It was for nine years of service. Thank you very much.

Letter "S" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 12 and Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures
This Week's Prompts: Starts with "S"; A Favorite; Tom's request, "S"top; and For James, Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures.
_ _ _ _
Starts with "S": Sore starts with "S". I have been doctoring for a Sore Knee, partly from a fall this Thursday, got to see my Orthopedic Doctor Yesterday (excuse for being late for this Friday's post??). Nothing broken. I cannot get on either knee, formerly broken kneecaps.
I fell, tripping over my cane just after I had gotten up for the Bathroom at 4AM. The muscle behind my right knee is hurting and won't let the leg hold me up. My son-in-law and a Neighbor came and helped me to get up.
Other parts of the knee are sore as well. The knee had been hurting anyway from a dead knee joint bearing. The tissue had worn down so that the upper bone is rubbing against the bone. I have replaced the Left Knee joint with an artificial joint one back in 2011. It works wonderfully.
That may be the fix for this one now, seems the injection series did not help the noise and pain one bit. Today the doctor gave me a steroid shot into the kneecap area, it has helped somewhat. This would be parodically needed for the rest of my life, very likely.
A Favorite: Strawberrys and Raspberrys in a cake. Love them!! Our younger daughter brought them over, saving for herself a piece, as she is the only one in her family who eats this desert.
Tom's request, "S"top: Stopped to ask, "Who Gets the Straw?"
For James, Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures: Skating guy is amazed at what he is seeing. At night, the New York City Winter Ice Skating Rink. NBC photo.

Letter "Q" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 12 and Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures
This Week's Prompts: Starts with "Q." A Favorite. For Tom, "Q"uite". For James, Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures. _ _ _ _
Starts with "Q": This Canaille was quietly getting ready for blooming. It is the first flower this spring where a plant that has been cut to the ground has blossoms.
The rabbits living around here have nibbled on some ends when they were more tender.
A Favorite: The Canaille is my Favorite because my father had canailles all around his converted office up in Nebraska.
Those are his canailles around the smaller building. It was converted from a baby chicken brooding house into an office for his seed corn business. There is a yard light on top of the pole, yes there is not a street, it was sitting in our farmyard. I slept on the front porch behind the hedge.
I grew up in the house sitting in the back. It was a two bedroom, four room, two structure built around 1900 and moved to our family farm in 1920. The new owner had bulldozed it down and has burned the rubble.
Read more about that here.
For James, Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures: The Guadalpe River is great for rafting. I'm not sure why the picture came out so striated.
For Tom, "Quite": This is one is a spot where the river runs Quite smoothly but there are rapids along its route at other places. You can read more about the house and my growing up here. _ _ _

P
.
Adi is posing with her aunt and uncle for a goodbye picture. We enjoyed staying with Lois and Jim (my sister and bro-in-law). You have seen most of our local tours. From August 2, 2006 post,
Starts with "N": Now soon I need to see my sister, haven't seen or visited with her, other that messages on the cell phone for probably nine years when she came here. Next should be my turn.
But I may have waited too long, the ladies in my life think I am too old at 90 to drive that far anymore. Southwest is having a $39 per flight sale now close like Memphis, $80 to Iowa where Lois lives. But I wouldn't drive straight through all the way one, up or down, but would and stop and see/visit my cousin in Arkansas who is a couple of years later than my age.
A Favorite: New Driver of my latest Antique? Car that I got back in 2000 for my retirement present. I would retire in 2001. This is our younger granddaughter, now a high school freshman.

CSU April hurricane forecasts FOX Weather©
For Tom, "Nice": Nice to know information, especially for us along the Gulf of Mexico coast.
James, Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures: Seems I might have posted before. Not sure where is located but feel it's close to our home, southwest of our home. Sorry 'bout that._ _ _

Starts with "M": Milk is my "M" word for this go round. This picture is a Brown Swiss Milk Cow with the same features as my FFA, Future Farmers of America, project for my junior and senior Ag activity and class.
We took her home from a calf auction when she was small, just a few months old. That was for my sophomore year, I fed and cared for her, she was a pretty young heifer at summer break time. By graduation time next spring she was a good Milk Cow. We separated her from her little calf the day it was born, and she joined our small Milk Herd.
All school FFA animals at our school must have been named. Guess the name I gave the calf. Now highlight the next blank space to see if you guessed right.
I named her "Brownie".
The cream we separated away from the Milk and sold it to the local creamery. My cow's Milk was rich with cream.
A Favorite: Monster Jam (we didn't get to see)
For Tom, "Mild": 1947, who all can remember, Pall Mall cigarettes slogan, ". . . and they are "Mild." I do.
For James, Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures: Mother and daughter. Now what?

Starts with "L": Love starts with "L". Is there such a thing as Parental Love?

Texas Bluebonnets are the Texas State Flower |
A Favorite: Lady Bird Johnson was my Favorite First Lady. 284 acres of The Johnson Texas farm was made into an open to the public, Lady Bird Johnson Wildlife Center. It is now a state botanic garden and arboretum with over 10,000 different species of wildflowers from all over Texas. It was featured on the March 2024 issue of the Southern Living Magazine, page 88 and ff.
More than 240,000 visitors have been coming every year. Mrs. Jim and I took my parents from Nebraska there in the 1980's, They, retired former farmers, were thoroughly impressed. I think my dad, generally a Republican voted for him, same as our family here in Texas.
For Tom, "Lake" and For James, Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures: This Lake find was at the Northlake Nature Center at Manderville, Louisiana (URL). Mrs. Jim is from Louisiana.
A Lagniappe: Two Love Birds
A Sad Update!! A squirrel has eaten these birds' eggs, robbed from their nest; so they have no reason to stay here. They are headed further north in their migratory journey up from Central America.
