Letter "N" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 12 and Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures

Letter "N" - This Week's Prompts: Starts with "N." A Favorite. For Tom, "N"ice". For James, Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures.

P
.
Adi is posing with her aunt and uncle for a goodbye picture. We enjoyed staying with Lois and Jim (my sister and bro-in-law). You have seen most of our local tours. From August 2, 2006 post,
https://jimmiehov.blogspot.com/2006/08/we-say-goodbye-to-iowa-and-goodbye-to.html

Starts with "N":  Now soon I need to see my sister, haven't seen or visited with her, other that messages on the cell phone for probably nine years when she came here.  Next should be my turn.

But I may have waited too long, the ladies in my life think I am too old at 90 to drive that far anymore.  Southwest is having a $39 per flight sale now close like Memphis, $80 to Iowa where Lois lives.  But I wouldn't drive straight through all the way one, up or down, but would and stop and see/visit my cousin in Arkansas who is a couple of years later than my age.

A Favorite: New Driver of my latest Antique?  Car that I got back in 2000 for my retirement present.  I would retire in 2001.  This is our younger granddaughter, now a high school freshman.

CSU April hurricane forecasts FOX Weather©
For Tom, "Nice"Nice to know information, especially for us along the Gulf of Mexico coast.

James, Reflections
and/or Street/Candid Captures:  Seems I might have posted before.  Not sure where is located but feel it's close to our home, southwest of our home.  Sorry 'bout that.

Letter "U" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 10 / Reflections and-or Street/Candid Captures

 - Tom's Requests: Starts with "U"; A Favorite; and Tom's suggestion, "U"gly.
 - James' request, Reflections and/or Street Photos/Candid Captures.
   _ _ _ _

Starts with "U":    "U" will be for Umbrella today.  Last year there were three, these two shortened type but I lost my black one, left it on a  bus  in London,, and now I use the one on the right.

It was Mrs. Jim's, but it became tricky to open so we got her a new one like the tricky one. Now I use the older one instead of buying a new one.

Her newer one has identification stickers, one is on the handle's end, you see the white glob on the end.

A Favorite:   I hope you won't accuse me of being vane by posting a photo of myself. But it is my favorite.  We, Mrs. Jim and I, were on the Sydney, Australia, ferry that goes around to the other side of Sidney peninsula. The bridge takes one over
to an Island (??) to the north.

James' request, Reflections: Don't say a muddy puddle won't give off a Reflection.   I was at the back of our library and noticed this mother duck herding her eleven baby ducklings over for a swim.  According to our newspaper this was the first time to come to Texas after a four-year hiatus.

HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHOM TO MARRY?

No person really decides before they grow up who
they're going to marry. God decides it all way before,
and you get to find out later who you're stuck with.

Tom's suggestion, "Ugly":   Colors, Ugly and broken.  Why do I use them?

Colour my World -- a Poem for Tuesday

https://www.flickr.com/photos/tabor-roeder/16462767919

Composing with Color

Why do I use broken crayons to write
Colors in small pieces I've lost their names
Their wrappers are gone they're no longer proud
Now looking dull still for me they'll wax bright

It's for those bright hues on paper they leave
I'm inspired to fashion my morning thoughts
Evening ones too, even in midday's heat
Mournful sticks colorful hues they invoke

That the color shows through to those who read
That their thoughts and dreams can depart this world
Mono-colored and ugly bit brightened
My hope for them those broken crayons bring

"Thanks" to those small naked pieces of wax
You have lightened the young and old and me

  1. Yes, I remember those crayons, I didn't like them at all. I liked new unused crayons. But of course you are right, "they'll wax bright." Your poem colors the world bright.

  2. Even small bits can create colourful scenes. Cool one, Jim.

  3. You had me right at the first stanza - what a way to just stop and swoop in and see the beauty for what it is, less than picture perfect - but whoop! it takes the brave heart and curious mind to say, hey, grab me this and let's play anyhow - because any colour is better than none at all.

    fun poem Jim :)

  4. I think I need some crayons to feel happy again.

Colors have a way of extending its kaleidoscopic hues to dampen sadness and loneliness. If only one gives time for its presence, it is a good pay-off!

  6. The sadness of crayons for me was that favorite colours wore down too quickly leaving me with greens and browns (which I dare not use) with my colour blindness problem lest I be laughed at. It didn't help as they laughed anyway with seas and sands and skies but no trees or bushes or leaves anywhere!

  7. I always kept the small pieces of crayon and memorized their names, like an orange called 'bitter sweet' - the first oxymoron I learnt.

  8. Every house hold should have crayons with kids and without. Clever and colorful write Jim!!

Letter "L" --- Friday's Weekend Roundup 10 / Reflections and-or Street/Candid Captures

Lots of Grapes for us, our home consumption

 - Tom's Requests: Starts with "L"; A Favorite; and Tom's suggestion, "L"oud.
 - James' request, Reflections and/or Street Photos/Candid Captures.
 _ _ _ _

Starts with "L":   Little is my "L" word for my 10th go around for Tom's alphabetics blog.  I used it first in naming this blog.  Even at that time back in 2005 there were several "Jim's Blogs" so as to make mine different I named it "Jim's Little Blog".

[Click on pictures for larger visit, the picture alone.]

My first post back in December, 2005 is shown above. It now has 2322 blog posts online and 919 drafts for various reasons they weren't published.  I write for my readers and have been doing versions of this blog since it started.  I have way more readers than those leaving comments. Quite a few are you friends and relatives who read to see what is going on.

I've left my blogging contacts listed on the right margin for memories sales.  Most don't blog anymore; several have died as well.  Some are Facebook Friends now.  Readership has really dwindled on this Weekend series, now in the 17th year for me.  I was thinking of changing format this time for more readers but now plan to continue until the final "Z" word now.

I have also added James, "Weekend Reflections/Street Photos" (click here) although there isn't much sharing by bloggers there.  I could perhaps find another blog site in additon to bolster my comment count.  Most of the time James will return my comments with his. Tom, owner of Friday's Weekend Roundup, here, almost always shows up.

My other Little Blogs:  JIM'S LITTLE PHOTO AND POEM PLACE(Poems, Pictures & Other), jim1Jim1 (my YouTube)Jim's Little Reading Place, Jim's Little Song Place (very little action), and JIM'S LITTLE HAPPY PLACE

Grapes for Mrs. Jim's bridge group

Grapes for us, our home consumption

A Favorite:  Lots of grapes today.

Tom's suggestion,"Loud":  Here is "Mom's" 1974 Mustang II GhiaIt is Loud as I replaced the original rusted out mufflers with straight pipes, only the resonator mufflers are on now.  The Ghia's had a V6 German Ford engine and I had put dual exhausts on it.

I was the first owner, Mom wanted me to buy her a stick shift Ford car from the lease cars turned in for the Spring of 1975.  I worked for Ford Aerospace at NASA Houston then and some of our executives were encouraged to lease a new Ford every year.

Mom didn't trust the automatic transmission in the car Dad had purchased as she couldn't tell what gear it was in and was afraid it might be choosing the wrong gear at times.

Oh yes, it only has 67K miles, Mom didn't take it out of town.  She died in 1999 and when Dad died in 2009, at age 97, I became the owner again.

Reflections and/or Street Photos/Candid Captures:  A "Walk Picture" that I took Saturday evening; it is a pedestrian trail bridge over the now fairly low water stream but come a heavy rain the water could be up to the top of the excavation sides.  Its purpose is for rainwater retention as a means of flood control.

Both sides of the ditch have a sidewalk like trail for walking.  I used the one on the left Saturday night as I walked the mile plus a little home from church.  There are several miles of trails.

O yes, there are a multitude of turtles that hang out under and near the bridge.  Also, the black ducks like to be near in hopes a walker or runner will stop to feed them a bit.  Click on the picture to make it larger and you will see better one of the ducks on the right side bank just before the bridge.  Also at the end of the bridge are a man and a boy with their dog.

A Lagniappe: These are the Last two pieces of my egg and cheese sandwich.   I cook the egg in the microwave in a sprayed dish, 66 seconds at 60 percent power.  Cover it while cooking as it may "pop" one time, or more.  Use one slice of toasted bread for open face, two for a regular sandwich.

When finished cooking lay a slice of American cheese on top while still hot in the dish.  Remove it on lay cheese down on the prepared toast.  I prepare the bottom slice with low fat mayo, the top with a couple of restaurant packs of catsup.  Slice into two pieces.

Voilà!! A wonderful sandwich in less than 10 minutes preparation, even for two.  You could embellish with a slice or two ham, chicken, or even a sausage patty.  They are good on a biscuit if you have some.

Letter "P" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 09 / Reflections and-or Street/Candid Captures

 - Tom's Requests for this Week's Prompts:
     Starts with "W"; A Favorite; and Tom's suggestion, "P"ainting
 - James wishes for our Reflections and/or Street Photos/Candid Captures

.

Starts with "P":  Today is Park for the "P" Word.  Please enjoy my Herman Park Pictures that I took here in our adjacent Houston, Texas.

Pictures are following:

After lunch, Mrs. Jim and I drove over to the 445-acre (1.80 km²) Herman Park (link 01)(link 02).

Everyone is proud of the new Herman Park Train. We haven't ridden this one but sure did ride the other one, a lot. Kids and grandkids all liked it when they were young. Mrs. Jim and BP rode that old one just this winter.

Reflections: The Herman Park has a really nice Japanese Garden too! We didn't get to stay long there because it closes at 5:00 PM until summer time. (link)

. [large picture] [super size]

. The bridge and pond above remind me of Monet's works at Giverny. Mrs. Jim and I went there in France before we got too old for things like that.  We took our son, Tim with us also.

That's General/President Sam Houston at the end of the reflection pool.

[large picture] [super size] We didn't rent a Paddle boat but you would be able to do that.

.

[large picture] [super size]

Lagniappe (1): There is the Museum of Natural Science, the Cockrell Butterfly Center (link), a Planetarium, and a very nice IMAX Theatre if you want to stay cool in the air conditioning.

[large picture] [super size] Walking to the Museum, we saw this orange flowering fruit tree in bloom (in the center of the picture). [large picture] [super size]

The steps here are in front of the Museum. They lead to a huge sun dial where there are always a bunch of kids playing something similar to hopscotch among the numbers.

Lagniappe (1):  What we didn't see were the 4500 animal Houston Zoo (at Herman Park)(you've gotta see this link to the zoo and all other attractions at Herman Park, the Miller Outdoor Theatre, and the 18-hole Herman Park Golf Course
(click here for a free round of golf)
All three of these are Houston Texas size, that means real big(!!). If you haven't been there, please visit the Wikipedia article, you will be impressed. Come visit us and I promise we can go there!

A FavoriteMy Pony, it's my retirement gift to me back in 2001.  A 1998 Mustang GT Convertible with 49K miles then (now 106K)

Revelation 21:6 by Larry Dyke circa 1970's

Tom's Choice, "Painting":  The original Painting for this Print was given to President Richard Nixon on National Prayer Day, early 1970's.  Amazon has one signed by President Nixon for $199, ours is signed and numbered.

Revelation 21:6, King James Version says, "And he said unto me, 'It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.'"

Please Pardon the Reflections in the photo, I took it inside this afternoon where the lighting was sort of messing things up.

A Lagniappe (2):  Panning for Gold?  We did in Alaska, got a little to take home.  But like "all the fish he had got was in his mother's pail," all the gold we got was purchased in the gift shop.
