Weekend Roundup -- 25-18 (for letter "Y")

The 25th issue of Weekend Roundup for this year...
The week's prompts:
(1) Starts with "Y"; (2) A Favorite; and (3) Yellow
 _ _ _ _ _
(1) Starts with "Y":  Most often "Y" will be for a yellow car or truck. My sister, Lois (read about her here), gave me this toy two door "Yellow Cab."  It is a small cast iron, a reproduction.  She put a little note in it saying "8500 - 10,000 Antiques Road Show."  I've never mentioned that to her.

When I was young my cousin John gave me a four door 1:16 scale model (about eight inches long) cast iron  four "Yellow Cab."  more like the one at the bottom of the page.

But I left it outside at our farmstead and Dad smashed it to bits by accidently running over it with his tractor. John had two of these given to him by our great aunt. I don't know if a relative still has it or not. John died a couple of years ago.

Lois lives in Iowa, we both were born at home in the family farm house in Nebraska.  I am the older by five years.

(2) A Favorite: Our youngest granddaughter has been to 4th and 5th grade church camp this weekKP is starting the 4th grade this Fall.

Here she is claiming her sleeping bag and appeasing her grandfather by a nice picture.  There were three 36 passenger busses going to a rural setting north of Houston, it was about a three hour ride.

This was her first time to go off camping with other kids.  She liked it, said she sure would want to go again next summer.

(3) YellowPopular Electronics Magazine cover partially (shown August 1961) used both Yellow type and then a yellow banner to announce lead articles. (magazine linkThe magazine ran from October 1954 until December, 1982.

Again in February 1989 it restarted as Popular Electronics until September.  Then it had a fairly long run as Poptronics until January 2003 when it was taken down never to be printed again in any form.

A popular option was the Novice Amateur Radio Station of the Month.  My ex and I had our station pictured and featured in 1963.  It was down in the basement of our New Hampshire home.  We both passed the exams for Novice Class and then within the allotted year for General Class.

Weekend Roundup -- 24-18 (for letter "X")

The 24th issue of Weekend Roundup for this year...
The week's prompts:
(1) Starts with "X"; (2) A Favorite; and (3) My Choice
 _ _ _ _ _
(1) Starts with "X": "X-MAS", short for "Christmas"  Here I have an couple of X-MAS Pickup Trucks.  One is cute, a decorative X-MAS toy, and the other is a real, Red 1952 or 1953 Ford hauling X-MAS Greenery.

(2) A Favorite:

This is a lawn mower guy taking a lunch break at our local MacDonald's.

(3.a) My Choice: These girls are posted on my other normally active blog, Jim's Little Photo & Poem Place for yesterday and today.  The girl on our right is my youngest granddaughter, KP.

(poem link)

(3.b) My Choice: A golfer is proud to be able to score his age or less in a round of golf.
I won't ever be able to do that but already I can drive my age.  Or more. You've heard of old folk who get their keys taken away by some busy body relatives.  I hope this never happens to me.  My dad had a cousin who drove into her 100's.  So there is hope for me.  Dad lived to be 97.

This was a loner car that we took to Tennessee this summer, ours was in the shop.  It was a Cadillac SUV with just 572 miles.  When we brought it back it had almost 2000. There we visited Mrs. Jim's Brother and SIL for about a week (link).

Weekend Roundup -- 22-18 (for letter "V")

The 22nd issue of Weekend Roundup for this year...
The week's prompts:
(1) Starts with "V"; (2) A Favorite; and (3) Violet

.

(1) Starts with "V":  Here is a picture of our Vinca Flower bed in a backyard bed next to the house. It all came up as Volunteer plants from seeds dropped by our last year's plants. [Click on any picture for a larger view.  Your back button gets you back if needed.]

(2) A Favorite:  Our upcoming Virtuoso.  She is my sister Lois' great grandchild.  She was in town yesterday and we had a small family get-together at her daughter's house.
While a bunch of us were eating cheeseburgers and hot dogs SJ came bursting in and started playing which consisted of banging the keys.  I suggested that we all get up and sing to accompany our young player.  But no one at our table wanted to sing so we didn't.

(3) Violet I have only known one lady named Violet. That is excepting the TV character on the British sitcom, "Keeping up appearances," 1990 to 1995.  There Violet was the wealthy seldom seen sister of the main character, Hyacinth.

The Violet I knew (but only got to see here a few times) was a cousin of my dad.  The last time I saw her was at her home.  Violet was driving but didn't drive in Omaha because she was 98 years old then.  She did live to be over 100 but I wasn't informed of her death..

Weekend Roundup -- 20 & 21-18 (for letter "T" & "U")

My cousins, Linda and Jack, standing away from the tall Statue of Sam Houston

The combined 20th and 21st issues of Weekend Roundup for this year...
The week's prompts:
(1) Starts with "T" and "U"; (2) Favorites; and (3) Truck and Under

I am sorry to have missed for last week.  I am posting the things I had ready but couldn't post then.  The picture at right pretty well shows the predicament I will be tolerating for the next five weeks.  It started ONE WEEK ago

I have a broken left kneecap.  I do not know how it got broken, neither does my orthopedic surgeon who tended it before and put in my artificial knee joint.

It was swollen and hurt some when I walked.  I knew I should go see the doctor but I procrastinated.  Then two weeks ago I was walking down the stairs and I heard and felt a cracking sound.  My knee almost buckled but I caught the rail.

It took a week to see my doctor who doesn't know why it broke either.  He didn't say broken into how many pieces, only that it was cracked.  I will ask to see the X-ray next Wednesday at my two week appointment.  In he meantime I am keep it immobilized with this brace which is supposed to limit my bending to 30 degrees.  BTW, the other knee cap is broken into three pieces from a fall in 2007 (link to my reports).

My theory is that the swelling pushed against the kneecap which was thin from shaving it to make more room for the artificial joint.  Or it could be that it had cracked because of my brittle bones (from Osteopenia) helped by the shaving.
.
Now for the good (??) stuff:

(1.T.) Starts with "T":  Of course I would say that "T" is for Texas, first and always.
.
TEXANSa. Like to brag,  most famous Texas brag is "Everything is bigger and better in Texas."

b. Like their sports teams. In Houston we have Three college teams for most college sports,  for sure football, basketball, and baseball.   The four major colleges are The University of Houston (my alma mater), Texas Southern University, Houston Baptist University,  and St. Mary's University.
The professional teams are complete and win a lot.  However we did lose our Hockey team.
c. Antique and Classic Car dealer in Dallas, it is larger than any of several here in Houston. Their Web Link, https://www.streetsideclassics.com/vehicles?q%5Bbranch_id_eq%5D=2 shows their large inventory.
d. I'll stop with this statue of Sam Houston, along I-45 north of the City of Houston near Huntsville.  It is large, large and TallFor more about the statue on my blog, please click here. Or about Sam Houston, click here.
Huntsville was the home of Texas' first president, President Sam Houston, when we were our own country. He was also the first governor of the State of Texas. There is a very fine museum in his town honoring him.

(1.U.) Starts with "U" is Uruguay.  We visited Montevideo Uruguay on New Years Day, 2017.  We were almost finishing our 31 day cruise, from Los Angeles down to Cape Horn at the bottom of the world and back up to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

(2) A Favorite
      and
(3) Truck:
I will always like the 1949 Ford Pickup., it is one of my favorite old trucks.  That is what I drove to high school in town for my last two years.  This one is on the August 2009 NAPA calendar that I have in my collection.  Here is a link to read about me and that truck.

(5) Under:

Standing under the balloon drop on New Year's Eve, then dancing after

(2.U.)  Below are some other of my favorites from Montevideo:
[click on them or any other picture for larger size viewing]

I guess you got the flavor, Montevideo is a very pretty city.  We were there on a holiday.
The end, that's all for tonight.
