Have you had your car read lately? #012 -- Eyes on the road there, boy!

[large picture] [super sized]

There's something pretty interesting over this way but I can't remember if I ever knew. It wasn't me. I didn't hang around long enough to see if he ran into those pedestrians ahead. Nothing was in the paper about it so he must have corrected for them while I wasn't looking.

What do we know about this fellow? For one thing, he is advertising for his grandfather's restaurant. In Texas, it might be a pub cause they have really good food. I don't know about the beer, it looked like I think beer should.

Mom used to tell me, "you don't find nice girls at a bar." That was back in the old days, it still might go today. But there were some nice girls in that bar the night we went. We went to eat at the pub restaurant side. Those girls were a part of our party, there are only two good restaurants in that town and both serve beer.

Now for the rest of the story:

That kid's toy John Deere was stolen not long after. Of course it was a bad day at his household. To make matters worse, it was insured as a part of the home contents and the deductible was more than the tractor cost.

You would think either it would be recovered or be lost to him forever.

I found his tractor in a chop shop lot last week. I turned it in to the authorities but it was gone by the time they got over there. Guess I should have called 911, the police said, no, that I had done right. They were just very busy that day. I just hope they hadn't stopped for a donut. I couldn't smell any sweets on their breath so maybe not.

That still wasn't the end. The little tractor didn't get chopped for parts after all. I saw it down the road from us working in the ditches, filling in the wash-out holes, mowing grass, and hauling dirt and trash.

Again I called the authorities, they came faster this time. But they found bad news. The tractor could not be identified as the serial numbers had been ground off. Even those on the axle were burnished smooth.

You do know that's how they caught up with the Oklahoma City bombers,
Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols . They didn't know that rental trucks had their serial numbers engraved on their rear differential or axle housing. You've heard about dumb crooks, those guys were at the top of the list.

I will keep tabs on that little toy John Deere. If it wears out so badly it can't do road work it might be up for sale again. I will buy it for that kid. I will also buy him some defensive driving lessons.

I like to buy kids things, check this out from Thursday, June 05, 2008

"Things I would do if I were a Billionaire:
I already am a billionaire. If I had several billion I would give more $$$$ away to those in need. I would buy hundreds of Big Kids Happy Meals for MacDonald's and pass them out to those who live under the bridges and in the tree settlements and give at least one to every person I see who was holding up a "Work for food" sign."

And this from Monday, August 28, 2006
Sunday Lunch with the Jim Bunch (link):

.
MacDonald's on Sunday is getting to be a habit with us. Us is Mema, Mrs. Jim, and me.

We all ate for $6.50. Mema had a Double Cheeseburger Happy Meal, Mrs. Jim and I shared a chicken Snack Wrap and we ate most of the French fries from Mema's happy meal. Mrs. Jim and I also had Senior Diet Cokes.

The routine continues, Mema eats half of her Double Cheeseburger and puts the other in her purse for a pick-me-up in the afternoon, then the three of us share two Hot Fudge Sundaes. That makes for three pretty full-up seniors on a $6.50 investment.
.

.

The toy is for me. When asked whether a boy's toy or a girl's toy, I opt for the boy's. I would like to have a Hummer collection to go with my other cars and Happy Meal toys.

.

.

My Hummer was like the blue one on top. Boy was I thrilled. I haven't opened the cars, like the Beanie Babies, they will be more valuable unopened.

A twist here. This was my second Hummer toy, since my first one went to a little boy who didn't have a Happy Meal, this one would be the first for my collection.

Wouldn't you know it. Here was another little boy with his Daddy and two sisters, none of whom had eaten a Happy Meal. You guessed it, that little boy now has a nice new Hummer MacDonald's toy.

He opened the wrapper quickly too, right after a big smile followed with a very heartfelt "thank you." Maybe next time . . .

.

. . . next time, I can find still another little boy who needs a bright new Hummer toy.

Oh Jim, you have such a great big heart! I could just give you a great big hug!!!

Hi Jim ~~ Next time, grab your toy and run without looking around.
Thanks for your comments. Warren works full time at a hospital in Brisbane. He is only in his early sixties. One reason he doesn't blog very often. I had another visitor today, Mike's sister
Vicki took Mike and me out to lunch and
we had a lovely meal and spent a couple of hours together. I cook some meals for Michael and I have know them for 35 or so years.
Take care, Regards, Merle.

Gday Jim,A big softie at heart.. yep i love to see the pleasure on a kids face when U give them a little gift.. Like Merle Said next get your toy and Run out the store like you got someone chasing you...

Funny tale about the tractor. You are indeed a generous soul - what a nice thing to do.

You left a link to your August 3rd post about Katrin. Back on September 7th, I posted a comment on that entry. It was a fine introduction to Katrin and I enjoyed seeing those photos again... Deb

Ray here.

Am I missing something? What tractor? That little thing the kid was driving? How could that little thing be working in ditches, mowing grass, hauling trash, and filling in holes?

Why would anyone want it's parts? Is this a joke?

Hi again Jim ~~ Thanks for the comments - the Pet Owner's thingy was quite good and true. Adi has probably grown out of some of them. Maybe Katrin barks when you take a shower because she wants attention, and showers are unnecessary
to her. My next visitors to stay a night will be my son Geoff and DIL Joanne
in about a fortnight. I do hope so. Not many stay overnight apart from Peter and Warren and it was great to have them.
Take care, Regards, Merle.

Jim, those toys were meant to be played with.....My grandson likes going to McDonalds to play in the play yard and get the free toys....He rarely eats all of his food.....lol

Keep up posted about the JD.
Ralph

Like the 1st photo! Even the little kid is helping to advertise. ;p

Cute post, through and through.
That littler feller on the tractor sure is a cutie pie.
He needs to keep watch on the road ahead of him though.
:-)
I have not eaten at a McDonald's in years. We did drive through recently, and I got a drink.
I like their quarter pounder with cheese and their filet of fish sandwiches. I just don't hardly ever eat fast food.
I remember frequenting McDonald's and Burger King when the kids were young, and boy did they love getting those Happy Meals with those toy surprises!!
