~~ Friday’s Hunt v.3.13-- "M" is for ...

Friday's Hunt for the week of March 31st: Starts with M; Week's Favorite; and Water

You can count the keys on this LARGE PRINT typewriter pictured below.
Please also note that it is a manual and not electric.

"Typewriter" posts, http://jimmiehov.blogspot.com/search?q=typewriter

1.  Starts with M:  "M" is for Make Up
Here it is "Make up your mind", is it Double or Single Space after a period?

To help matters, I learned in my Typing Class to always do two spaces after a period, also do the double space after a colon.  Now-a-days most published material has only one space after periods.
For me I still double space, I think it helps the reader to separate the sentences.

These two links may help you make a decision:
a.  Google it:

c.  More uses of "Make Up" besides 'make up' your mind
 - Wearing makeup, I put too much "makeup" this morning;
 - Catching up by taking a "Make up" exam in school work or a rained out sports game;
 - Constitute, Women and people of color "make up" the majority of the Trump coalition
 - Fill in, complete, Donald Trump's Tax Plan—The Rich Pay Less, and You "Make Up" the ...
 - Patch up a damaged relationship, after a night on the town and dining at a nice restaurant, the couple seemed to "make up" their differences;
And I am sure there are others you might think of.  For me, these are the majority of uses of "Make UP".

2.  Week's Favorite: Eating, if not leftovers then it's hot dogs made me.

Pie from "Pi Day".  Mrs. Jim made Apple pie for me.  I told you I would get some (Link to Pi Day Posts)

I am the Hot Dog maker of the house.  This is just a plain dog on bun with relish, mustard, and cheese.  (Link to hot dog posts)

Left over spaghetti from eating out.  I had eaten the Frutti di Mare before getting the rest put into my doggy bag.  Then, as usual I add a dozen plus shrimp from our freezer.  Really good "Fruit of the Sea" leftover dish.

hhhhhhhpppppppppppphhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

3.  Water: You might like this, from an older 2012 post about "Water",

Stealing from the kids

These are balls rescued from the golf course, many came from the water, possible the water being held in the sand trap where Sam (not his real name) is raking for balls.  He found several but not his own.

The children's sign on the tree says:

$1.00 Yellow
...50¢ Blue
...25¢ Green

Oh Jim, you have surely opened a can of worms with that single/double spacing argument! I am an ardent double spacer. I learned that way, it's ingrained in my typing, and I find it very difficult to switch. I don't mind reading text with the single space after the period, but I prefer the double. Yes, it's probably age-related, as the articles suggest, but some young people are so muddled with their rules of punctuation that I don't necessarily think they have it right! My most recent (and continuing contract) has a style guide requiring me to use a single space. I must follow the client's request, so I have to do a search on double spaces in all of my documents for them and convert them to single spaces. Very annoying! However, my temper might be soothed by a piece of that lovely-looking apple pie! P.s. This comment has double spaces after the periods as I type it. I don't know if that carries over into the actual comment - sometimes text gets altered by page algorithms to switch it to single spaces, especially in blog comments. I have noticed this!

Indeed....it was switched to single spaces. Darn it!

...Jim, so it's not just me, I thought the there were two spaces after a period too. Times and things change. I always forget pi day! I'll take my dog with just mustard, please. Keep you ball on the fairway!

I see that Nora Roberts book. I love reading Nora Roberts.

I too remember the spacing. I do it the same as you. It's what we were taught.

I love the pie and ice cream, and the hot dogs too. Yummy.

Have a fabulous day, Jim. ☺

I say bring double space and back it's much easier read that way. I Love all the definitions of make up and very clever Jim.

I learned to type on an old manual typewriter too. So I still use two spaces also. It kills me when I'm doing formal papers and have to use proper formatting. That pie looks yummy! I hope the kids did will with their little business. Thanks so much for joining Friday's Hunt. I hope you have a great week!

My M post is published today (Wednesday for ABC ) You are a little in advance ! It's always on Wednesdays.
Collecting Golf balls must be fun !

Sorry, I mixed up with another theme, no I didn't do Eden Hills photo hunt, my friend's dog Charlie had to put asleep and I was too sad to write anything.

I think most of us who first learned to type on standard typewriters are in the habit of double spacing after a period. I am trying hard to learn to single space, since most writing submissions now require it as standard format. Old habits die hard!

Wow, you sure came up with a lot of definitions for "make-up", and all of them are in everyday use. Good job!

I smiled at your Apple Pi, and your gourmet hotdogs! I love both, though I prefer Johnsonville Smoked Bratwurst to hotdogs. It looks like there was plenty of pocket money to be made on retrieving golf balls from the water hazard! :-)
