What kind of hot dog is this?
.It's a French hot dog, of course!
Tucked inside a baguette,
How in the world do they make these?
.
Look what that hot dog did to GC#4's tooth?
That sounds romantic, doesn't it,
to loose a tooth in Paris!
.
Jim can have one of those French hot dogs too!
It was a part of his jail food last April.
He is hoping for food half that
good for his next jail stint
coming in a week or so.
[For sure, to see it good click on the picture!]
Here is where and how they made Jim's. At this little hot dog deli with this British machine.
The baguette is pierced with the spear looking spike that doubles as a warmer. Hot dogs, the nice sausage kind, are kept warm in the plastic container.
Mustard is poured in the hole if wanted, then the hot dog is stuck down into the center hole. Presto, the best hot dog I'll ever have (well, ALL those like it too that I ate over there).
.
[Note: we never did find a hot dog like this in Britain where they make the machine, we always had them in France, Austria or Germany.]
This summer Rachel Spencer had a blog, Au Paris, on the Houston Chronicle. I was always asking her to try the French hot dog after I described it to her. She never could find one. Family France Photos Food

Upon her return to the U.S. Rachel resumed her studies in Arkansas and eventually began a writing career of her own. I was almost in love with her, her blog was so intriguing. Read some from it yourself (link).

Hot Dog !! ~~ Warm Heart Wednesday No. 020
Today they are a dollar at our local Sonic drive in/thru restaurant. Limit three, plain, dressed, or with chili.
I'll get three with chili. Take them home after stopping at our Kroger store for a few items, and add some cheese and mustard. I will eat one, Mrs. Jim eats one, and will save the other for a snack.
[Click on the picture for a larger view on a cheese hot dog that I make.]
My cheese is generally low or no-fat, the hot dog is, if I find them priced right, is Oscar Meyer bun length, Ball Park are okay if I don't like the other's price.
Some of the prior hot dog posts on my blog: (you might can tell that I like hot dogs)

Have you had your car read lately? #006 -- Looks like a nice fellow here
That's too pretty a Mustang to treat it badly? Is this car owner (not the rapper guy) feeding his car hot dogs?
That hot dog does look pretty good, it is a 'Johnsonville' wiener with lots of sweet relish and mustard.
This scene says wonders for the owner. He has good taste. (Reminds me of Charlie Tuna, in his commercial he says "we want tuna that tastes good, not tuna with good taste.")
Too, this driver has good taste in automobiles. Who wouldn't drool for this shiny black Mustang GT Convertible! He sure does keep it polished as well, that shows he is cool and collected and always wants to show his good side. He may not even have a bad side.
I don't see him listening to that rapper. This shows our driver has good taste in music, I hear his favorites are classic rock and oldies from the 60s and 70s. You just can't beat this fellow. Not even with a stick.
Now I'll show you what else I found.
Now we know where he is and where he 'buys' his hot dogs. Hot dogs are Free! I only see one so he doesn't over eat either. He must be tall and handsome and well disciplined with his eating. [Please note that I didn't say cheap. We do see that the second hot dog is regular price, 99¢.]
It isn't a JACK IN THE BOX hot dog, but rather a Quickstuff hot dog. I asked the owner if all Shell gas stations had free hot dogs on Friday (I was going to get one here and another one down the road at the next Shell station.).
The attendant said no, only the Shell stations with a Jack in the Box were having Free Hot Dog Fridays. She added that this Shell station was the only one in Conroe, Texas, having a Jack in the Box. Darn.
Now lets follow the fellow to the gas pump.
What has happened here, wasn't this supposed to be a Shell station?
Our driver is also prudent. Shell gas was $3.41 a gallon so our buddy drove his Mustang over to the Exxon station where it was only $3.37 a gallon. He was saving 48¢ on his gasoline!
Well, didn't he buy an exhorbantly high priced drink at one of those stops? No, our driver had brought his own canned Diet Coke in his cooler.
He really is prudent, he saved $1.47 on this gas and food purchase plus the price of a drink. I did note also that over by his home, gasoline was $3.45 and $3.49 a gallon at the Citgo or other Exxon stations.
I believe he is a winner.
Really good after that last few weeks of weirdos.
I saw a few cowboy churches and quite a few Hispanic churches. All are within a 35 mile radius of our home.

And? A little quiz here
UPDATE (answer):
Thanks for trying guys, I know you aren't mind readers.
This is my simple way of fixing my hot dog buns, pictures below.
Lay the hot dog bun down on the cutting board, sliced side up.
With a sharp knife, cut a new opening, pretty well straight downward. Be careful to not reach the bottom of the bun.
Slice sideways from on cut to another. Life out the wedge of bread.
Prepare one (or a half) slice of no fat cheese cut into strips to lay in the newly cut valley in the bun.
Toast the bun, open side down laid ON TOP of the toaster. Before toasting, place the cut out portion(s) standing up in the toaster well to toast them as well.
Quickly lay the cheese into the warm bun slice place.
Place a wiener onto the cheese slices.
Put the hot dog sandwich in the microwave oven, heat for approximately 20 seconds until the cheese begins to melt.
Serve with condiments of your choice. I prefer relish and mustard as the picture shows.
Approximately 310 calories using regular 8 to a pound Oscar Meyer wieners.
ANSWER TO THE QUIZ QUESTION:
You can see, the long pieces are what has been removed from three hot dog buns.
The smaller pieces on the left have been rescued from the toaster.
Now, use these pieces as croutons for soup, salad, or eating. You could also saute them with butter and garlic for a really yummy snack.
At our house Adi eats these as treats as Mrs. Jim and I eat our hot dogs.

A Random Five post [013] — I didn't do it !
On the minus side, the water was cold (Texas Gulf Coast beaches are warm and have spoiled us), there wasn't any sand, and it was supposed to rain. Well, it didn't rain and the Brighton Pier rides were nice. The food was nice too, the kids had fish and chips.
I stayed home and made myself a halibut (baked and breaded) sandwich with cheese, mustard, and lettuce. It was really good. I also had a cod fish cake and some musk melon.
Karen and her friend from Houston went to Paris last weekend. The brought me this Maille Chablis Moutard (mustard), to confuse me with the others. But she said I couldn't take it home because it wasn't sealed, it was just poured into the jar and closed with a cork.
I had bought another jar which will seal to use while we were here. It was a Maille Original that I got at our neighborhood Tesco, which is the largest supermarket chain in the United Kingdom (Wikipedia).
Three: I wasn't very close when T.H.E .. B.A.B.Y came home from the hospital but I did get these nice pictures.
Katrin has kidney problems and will have to take a big blue pill, horse-pill-sized, every morning an hour before her breakfast. In the picture with the blue, her bed had slipped down between the car seats and she went down with it.
Five: I didn't bring any tweezers and Mrs. Jim left hers home. That means I haven't pulled any nose hair out since we've been here.
Perhaps I won't have to though as I found a nice pair of scissors with a little steel ball on the end of each blade. That keeps me from cutting my self. I may never pull another nose hair.

~~ Friday’s Hunt v.2.12 -- "L" is for ...
1. Starts with "L"
2. Week's Favorite
3. Critter
1. Starts with "L": "L" is for Laugh. I posted this little story back in 2013 (link) but since to me it was really funny I'll post it again. You might laugh.
.
A man comes home from an exhausting day at work, plops down on the couch in front of the television, and tells his wife, "Get me a drink before it starts."
The wife sighs and gets him a drink.
Fifteen minutes later, he says, "Get me another drink before it starts."
She looks cross, but fetches another beer and slams it down next to him.
He finishes that beer and a few minutes later says, "Quick, get me another drink. It's going to start any minute!"
The wife is furious. She yells at him "Is that all you're going to do tonight? Drink and sit in front of that TV? You're nothing but a lazy fat slob, and furthermore..."
The man sighs and says, "It's started."
Joe Cosity used to send me one of these every day. His jokes are still at http://www.cleanjokeoftheday.com/jokes.html where I clicked on "Archives I"
The picture is of Mrs. Jim. I smiled at the joke but it wasn't how we work. Mrs. Jim has never brought me a beer while I was watching TV and I have never asked her to.
Here are some other past posts where I was using the letter, "L":
http://jimmiehov.blogspot.com/search?q=%22L%22 , for other requesters.
2. Week's Favorite: I was pretty proud of this sandwich. Mrs. Jim was having eggs and grits for lunch. I opted out of those although she volunteered to hard boil an egg for me with hers if I wanted. I wanted.
My Ingredients, yours may vary:
- One hard boiled egg
- One hot dog bun
- A piece of onion, One large purple plum, One teaspoon tartar sauce, Mayo as needed for consistency (I used light), One teaspoon yellow mustard if you want, I did not, Salt and Pepper, I used a couple of pinches each.
- Other items that you yourself would add to make a deviled egg or egg salad
- Two fairly large Romaine lettuce leaves
I cut the center out of the hot dog bun to replace that part with my egg salad. Dice the egg and onion into fairly small pieces, the fruit into larger. Put in the lettuce, add the salad. Yummy!
Most farm people have at least one Farm Dog. If more than one, most likely only one will be the favorite.
Ours would be raring to come out to the field with the lunch like the dog in the picture.
The lunch for sure came in the afternoon and depending on what activity was there, a morning lunch also might be had. Farmers can work up an appetite. Also a nice cold drink is appreciated mid-day.
This picture was one I found in an old John Deere book last Sunday afternoon during some 'stops' after church. I don't think the illustrator person was very famous, there were no credits that I could find.
I did not buy the book, it was marked $20.00. Dad had a binder machine like this one, he pulled it with four horses. It cut the oats or other grain and when a bundle size was ready the binder put a piece of twine around it and tied a knot.
I think it kept maybe four and then dumped them. Another person or the farmers would pile them in a 'shock' to dry. The 'shook' had six to eight bundles and was sloped so that any rain before threshing could run off.
This operation, cutting and binding, and threshing happened in the summer so I was able to help a lot. Dad would not let anyone except himself do the cutting and binding. Now a 'combine machine' replaces the binder and thresher, combing both operations. One think though, the grain will have a higher moisture content than doing it the old fashioned way.
Oh yes, now the farm critter dogs either come out with the trucks or stay home and play with the kids.

Weekend Letter "I"; Icicles, Inside, Ingredients (Hot Dog)
the Letter "I". Prompts are:
(A) Starts with "I"; (B) A Favorite; (C) Inside; and (D) Reflection(s).
Icicles start with "I", so look closely for the icicles. The big one, about 18 inches long, fell from the faucet and broke. I have a piece of it sitting on the sprinkler pipe. The other icicles (not Adi's) are on that weed to Adi's left, your right.
It was just recently that day in 2007 on Groundhog day when Adi saw her shadow (picture link). I had it mixed up there, the groundhog saw his shadow and was scared. He ran back into his hole for six more weeks of winter.
You might have to click on the picture above to make it large enough to see the icicles. Another picture where she didn't look so happy is here.
Lastly, if you're from Florida or southern California and don't know what icicles are, go here to Wikipedia. We didn't have any hanging from the roof because we didn't run the hose up there.
And it didn't get cold enough here this year for icicles. 2007 may have been our last year.
(B) A Favorite: Hot Dogs are my favorite (I know, H's were the thing to post last week), but I hadn't eaten or not even made this one yet.
Ingredients were two hot dogs, sliced and cut to fit my toasted hot dog bun scraps, one and a half slices of American cheese, ample amounts of sauerkraut, and mustard. Mrs. Jim adds sweet pickle relish to hers, just a little bit. It pulls out the other flavors.
Before the mustard I heat the array (they were already fairly hot by heating individually before assembly) in the microwave until the cheese begins to melt.
(C) Inside: When it's cold outside stay inside. We did have a little snow last year, no icicles though. No snow either this year, we had a little frost so far.
(D.b) Reflection(s): Last Saturday night we attended the musical stage show, "Mamma Mia" (read about it here), at our Hobby Center for Performing Arts in Houston (named after former Texas lieutenant governor and Houston businessman, William P. Hobby, Jr.) . I really didn't enjoy the going down there and driving in the dark but we made it with all the paint staying nice on the car.
We got there a bit early and I happened to notice all the Reflections in the glass windows of the building. While waiting to be admitted to the auditorium I took some pictures. The side picture on the right shows down on the ground floor and some of the height perspective.
The upper may be the best of all I took. It shows the traffic, pedestrians, and some of the taller buildings THROUGH the windows. But it also shows a bunch of us INSIDE the lobby on ours, we were on the 4th floor of six, but walked down to the front part of the mezzanine.

I've been tagged!

by Britmum.
Well I got tagged. Not my cup of tea but I'll do it this ONE time. They say it can be a lot of fun. So, here goes...
I'm thinking about:
How I already wished I was doing my cathouse post tonight instead.
I said:
D**n!! i hate that tag s**t. you know i wont do it!! lol i loved your answers!! This is a good one, why didn't I get one like this? You had good, interesting answers too. (that's what I told Britmum, 1 plus twins said that too, first!)
I want to:
Warn everybody never to tag me again!
I wish:
Mrs. Jim was some help here. She has her priorities mixed up and would rather watch Mystery on PBS, play bridge and golf, and cook than blog. I don't think she even knows what a tag is. I did explain Technorati tags to her.
I hear:
Britmum is kinda sorry she caused me all this grief. I don't think I could mess up a perfectly innocent computer screen this bad if that was what I was trying to do.
I wonder:
What I would be doing if it wasn't this stupid post. Probably reading the funny papers in today's Sunday Houston Chronicle. They have eight pages you know.
I regret:
I only had one life to give for my country--they didn't need it at the time, so I'm d**d to be forever blogging and being tagged instead.
I am:
Watching a Frasier rerun while I'm waiting for the Seinfeld rerun and doing this tag s**t.
I dance:
On other people's toes, I'd just as soon be doing a serious meme, maybe I will if anyone reads this one.
I sing:
Really, I don't sing. I've been kicked out of a church choir, laughed at by my own daughter, and smiled at by Mrs. Jim. A voice instructor told me today that he could teach me to sing--you've always heard you can't teach an old dog new tricks--even if I do have a bad ear. What's an ear got to do with singing? It's thelarynxx you know. My computer sings too, I type better than 50 WPM! [corrected] That way I can turn out tag posts in record speed.
I cry:
When I watch Elvis Presley's funeral on the He Touched Me: The Gospel Music of Elvis Presley on PBS, they have him singing for his own funeral [a recording] on the program. (link to description) Please don't you cry when you read this, I'm getting a buzz on it now, I'm even trying harder to please, can you tell?
I'm not always:
Nasty, it's just a role I play when I'm p**'*d about being tagged.
I make with my hands:
Some really good sandwiches. Faves are Swiss, turkey, lettuce, tomato, and pickle with mustard on rye bread, and secondly, a chopped hot dog and egomeletet on a Southern biscuit with cheese. Mustard on the side is optional for the hot dog and egg bit. Mrs. Jim's Southern homemade biscuits are best. While I'm eating I get ideas for tag posting.
I write:
Best when I can choose my own topic. Britmum really s**ed up my rhythm when she tagged me.
I confuse:
Tag writing with bag writing. Bag writing is best done when the bags are fresh. I prefer paper over plastic and credit over cash.
I need:
A couple of sows and bucks. That was the punch line, I don't tell the joke very well, so will just skip it and keep on doing tags instead.
I am thankful for:
Apple pie, country, God, and hot dogs. Runzas deserve a kudo too. You though I was going to say tagging didn't you.
That reminds me of the old joke:
Able had banana in his ear when he met his friend, Bain.
Bain said, "Able you have banana in your ear."
Able said to him, "What?"
Bain said again, "Able you have banana in your ear."
Then Able replied, "Bain, I'm not hearing you, wait a minute till I get this banana out of my ear."
That really wasn't the one it reminded me of, it was this one, a knock knock:
Knock, knock. Who's there? Banana. Banana who?
Knock, knock. Who's there? Banana. Banana who?
Knock, knock. Who's there? Banana. Banana who?
Knock, knock. Who's there? Orange. Orange who?
Orange you glad I didn't say banana again?
And finally:
I'm sorry for you that I had to bore you with this tag post. That is, if you made it this far down the screen. It has even driven me to drink (two beers) and
And now I tag: [If you don't want to do a tag, just don't. But it won't kill you and might be a little bit of fun. Simple and not too much to think about.] Fun Life Personal

So, now I tag:
Rachel, Sliding Through Life
Cliff, Cliff Morrow's Blog
Cheyenne, Muse & Amuse
Warren, WazzasPlace
Seeker, First Hundred
That's five. What I'm supposed to do. There isn't any order, you were picked from by Blog Read list. The rest may have their day.
If you can get someone to trade with you, that's fine with me. I hope it doesn't break the chain or we all might have one hundred years of bad luck!
