Weekend Roundup -- 19-18(b) (for letter "S") -- Reflections too

The 45th issue of Weekend Roundup for this year..
The week's prompts:
(1) Starts with "S"; (2) A Favorite; (3) Shimmering; and (4) Reflections

 (1) Starts with "S":  Salad ~~ This is a Chicken Salad Lunch that I made for Mrs. Jim and me.  It was pretty healthy and helped to get rid of some leftovers.

(2) A Favorite: Small Car ~~ I like small cars if they are hopped up a little.   This one is a toy decorator 1949 Nash. (BTW, the fluorescent lights are shimmering (seek # 3 here) in the reflections on the car.)   The number 94 was the Nash's number in the movie, Cars.

My friend back when I was a college dropout and worked in a watch factory (Elgin Nation Watch Company, Lincoln, Nebraska) I had a friend who had one of these when I first met him.  Soon after meeting he traded it for a 1951 Chevy Convertible.

(3) Shimmering:  I like to watch the fixed Web Cams, check on who goes by or who is gone by.  You can check on the Princess ships here: https://www.princess.com/bridgecams/?shipCode=pa

(4) Reflections:  Note the little bird "fishing" alongside the water in our flood control pond.  Click on the photo to the right for a larger view.

(5) a Bonus:  See below for a SUDOKU that I copied from our newspaper.  It has one of these Puzzles in every issue.  The stars relate the degree of hardness.  One star will be very easy, five stars are very hard.

All are workable, I like those with up to three stars and will generally work the ones with four.  Five take up too much of my time.

Rules:
(a)  Each row each, up and down, must contain all the numbers,
1 through nine.  Same for the columns.
(b)  Each box must have all nine numbers
Try working this one !!!

— My Alphabe-Thursday — "Y" — Yellow Pictures (as of late)

1st Yellow is for the Yellow stripes on KP's striped blouse.  If I hadn't wanted to post this picture of the three generations of women in my life, I would have called those stripes "Orange".

Left to right, Mrs. Jim, KP (she's six now!!!), and our daughter, KP's mom, Karen.

2nd Yellow is for the Yellow letters on my old Kentucky Derby racing game box.

I didn't know we had this 1940's or 50's game until we unpacked it from the umpteenth box.  (Yes, we have moved, to Katy, Texas.  If you have my e-mail address I'll send you my house address if you need it.)

Rules:  Pick a horse out of the four remaining from all these years.  Throw a dice once for the number of squares you'll move.  Throw it again to see which horse gets, remember five and six are lost throws in memory of the lost horses) to move the number of squares on the first dice throw. First horse to cross the finish line wins.

That reminds me that on a recent cruise we were the winners of the final horse race.  The horse we bought and decorated won.  Big bucks, ...

One more thing, the Ford Thunderbird emblem is off my 1969 Ford Thunderbird.  I took it off before I sold it for a ridiculously low price.  Then I forgot about it until I found it in the same box as the game.

3rd Yellow is for the big Yellow truck, a Love's Truck Stop truck. I was in the middle lane of five, he was in the inner of the passing lane passing me.  I was driving between 75 and 79.

You can click on any picture a time or two to get a better and better look.

"J" is for

.
Jeep -- Four-year-old KP is driving

This was at Hyde Park, London, U.K.  It was at a little two ride amusement machine set up right outside the playground and snack area.

Her ride cost 1.50£ and was fairly busy.  The other ride at 2.00£ was a carousel but she didn't ride it.

We had spent the afternoon at the National Science Museum (free admission--link) and walked through the park on the way home.

KP loves rocket, space ships, and astronauts.  She told me that she wants to be an astronaut when she grows up.  That would suit me fine, an ex NASA aerospace engineer.   (I worked in Flight Control at the Johnson Manned Space Center at Houston before I resigned after SkyLab and began teaching business courses at our local community college, San Jacinto College.)

See Jenny Matlock's blog, "Off My Tangent," for other Alphabe-Thursday "J" entries (link). Bloggers, you may wish to enter there also.

An aside, I wanted to post all of the pictures that I have taken of my Hot Dogs for my "J" entry. But that wouldn't work.  This is National Hot Dog Month so have one for me.  I did have one July 2 for early celebrating of Independence Day.

Fun things to do at the Woodlands, Houston, Mall — MidWeek Blues —

.
Click on any picture for a larger size view. Your back button gets back to here.

We had a fun couple of hours or so to spend at the Woodlands, Houston, Mall (link) the other afternoon. Karen, Billy, and KP have been visiting us and Mrs. Jim had a need to run to the mall. It is twenty-seven miles and forty minutes towards Houston from our home. We ended up doing three fun things.

The first fun item was to visit the Disney Store. We wanted to see KP when she saw all the Mickey Mouse stuff there. That was Mrs. Jim's purpose in our coming to the Mall.
.
Here she is just after giving Minnie Mouse a big hug. Of course Mickey came first but my picture of Mickey and KP only has her holding hold of Mickey's hand.
.
And then NOBODY leaves the Disney Store without spending money. We bought a organic cotton tee shirt and a pair of Mickey Mouse flip-flops.
.
Second on our list was to eat. After a little thinking and talking we picked Wendy's at the food court. I like Wendy's because they have free drinks for the seniors (a few offer a 10% discount instead). Mrs. Jim and KP had a vanilla Frosty of which KP drank most of it. I had a chocolate Frosty all by my self. They were both the small size.
.
Also Mrs. Jim and I each had a Crispy Chicken Sandwich with lettuce but "hold-the-mayo" with a serving of BBQ sauce on the side. We shared a small order of French fries. Our free drinks were senior sized (small) Diet Cokes.
.
This was a fine meal for three at the cost of one for two. We did get everything off the 'Value Meal' menu for reduced sizes and costs.
.
We all decided that Wendy's should take lessons from MacDonald's in making French fries. MacDonald's definitely are the best FF's, Wendy's were probably the worst. In fact I will remember that and stay away from them next time. Generally we do not have fries but with KP we decided for the variation
.

Last but not least on our list was to ride the Merry-Go-Round, or Carousel as some call it. Mrs. Jim calls it a carousel.
.
KP loved her ride. We were pleasantly surprised too. This Merry-Go-Round ride is the best bargain in Houston as it only cost ONE DOLLAR for KP and Mrs. Jim was free.
.
Since this was a good thing, it had to end. KP definitely was not ready for it to stop even though I suppose her ride lasted at least five minutes. It was LONG!

After the ride we bummed for a bit. Going out on the balcony was a good thing to do on a nice warm Spring day. At the end of these stores is the Valley parking area and on the other side of the few restaurants there is a stream with a boat taxi to take on around to various places in the Woodlands.
.
The party was not for us but the food court was decked out for a party. I am not sure which restaurant was hosting.
.
Oh yes, Since KP liked her Carousel ride so much and it was at a bargain price we all decided that one more ride with be one more good thing. This time KP opted for the green frog (it had a blue riding blanket for the MW Blues post).
.
This time she didn't cry when it was over and she had to leave. But she did leave one tired little girl. The grandparents were almost that tired too.

My two Valentines -- Ruby (Red) Tuesday -- So?

So far these are the only two cards I have received.

I won't be going to the first party, it is a four hour drive from my home.

Nor will I go to the second one. I have been to one of these before, it will be interesting, some friends will be there, the food will be good, and the speaker will not put you to sleep. But we have made prior arrangements.

Click the Ruby Tuesday button for Mary's Ruby Tuesday post list
of other interesting RED finds today.
Mary is in charge there, you can see more or post your own from there
.

You had better hurry to invite me to your party,

my calendar is filling fast!
