Letter "I" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 11 and Reflections and-or Street/Candid Captures

[Note:  I may be out of pocket for next week's post.]

Tom's for this Week's Prompts:  Starts with "I," A Favorite, and "I"ce Cream.
James' request, "Reflections and/or Street Photos/Candid Captures."
 _ _ _

[Second Baptist Church Houston, 1463 Campus lobby Christmas display]

Starts with "I": This crafted model outdoor Ice Skating Rink mostly comes from a well bleached bed sheet.  It is a part of one of the two toy train scenes crafted, assembled, and displayed in the foyer of our church at Christmas time.

Both children and adults stop for their Imaginationsworkouts.

A FavoriteI had found this Insane Driving cartoon on one my Facebook friend's pages and pasted it here in April, 2017.  I can't remember who, but it floats around I'm sure.

Mrs. Jim seems to be more concerned with my driving since we moved out of the country and back in to YUPs (Young Urban Professionals) land.

Most of the YUPs drive really fast and dart in and out of traffic.  Not the peaceful Montgomery setting she was used to driving in.

Tom's request is "Ice Cream": We have switched to Aldi's Ice Cream.  These are $2.49, but being cheaper isn't the reason we switched from Blue Bell.  They used to have our favorite, "Homemade Vanilla Lite", we would buy that and some others with.  But they dropped having 'Lite' Ice Cream and we don't buy the others either now.

Reflections and/or Street Photos/Candid Captures:  Morning after.  Hurricane Idalia had spent the night.

Last week's Street Photo/Candid Capture (in case you missed it)Taken in Italy near our hotel when visiting the Cinque Terre towns.  We had a rental car, of course, and had it parked by the train station.  (Note:  Bad also, I may be too old to rent a car anymore.)

Letter "K" --- Friday's Weekend Roundup 10 / Reflections and-or Street/Candid Captures

Our living room viewed from my recliner chair.  The bookcase on the left
is featured today.  On the left are three tall windows below three more at
second floor level.  The front door is later, down the hall to the right.
[click the picture for a larger view]

 - Tom's Requests: Starts with "K"; A Favorite; and Tom's suggestion, "Kooky."
 - James' request, Reflections and/or Street Photos/Candid Captures.
 _ _ _ _

Starts with "K":  "Key" starts with "K".  Key is a very hard worker, not only as the unlocking of doors type but rather in Metaphor.  Key to my heart, key words, key man, etc. most any place where importance in the task is necessary.

In my picture of the right (side of the fireplace) bookcase is shown two "Keys to Understanding the Message of the Bible."  The bottom Nativity wooden set we purchased in Bethlehem, Isarael.  It shows the birth of Jesus Christ with the Angel standing by.  There is a family story behind each of the three pieces here, the Globe, the Angel, and the Nativity.

Above, the next shelf up this set of books comprise a set of New Testament commentaries by William Barkley.  We bought those when we were selling Christian books, mainly we had out of spinner wracks in grocery stores.  We had a 'distributor' franchise to do that, it also had a multilevel marketing set up but we had no others, just Mrs. Jim and me.

Tom's suggestion, "Kooky":  Luke, our former neighbor dog was glad to see us.  Doesn't Luke look sad to see us leave?  Kooky? He is a nice dog, he minds sooo good.

Reflections and/or Street Photos/Candid Captures:  Another "Dog Day in Telluride" photo.  Telluride, Colorado is about thirty minutes hour away from our friends' ranch.

.[Click picture for larger sized viewing]
A LagniappeWe spent the afternoon here, Lake Maggiore at Stresa, Italy (for last week's letter), the mountains across the lake are in Switzerland.  We haven't been to any of the five countries beginning with "K", Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kiribati, Kosovo, and Kuwait and probably won't.

My Jars of Jam are lined up for a taste test.  I know the result before we start, do you?  Left to right, Walmart, Aldi, and La Madeleine

(B) "Jewel" (Tom's Choice):   Do Quartz Watches have Jewels?  Dunno.  So I asked google.  Google said, "
Some quartz watches do have jewels in its movement to reduce friction. These watches are generally of a higher quality than watches without jewels and are designed to last longer which subsequently making it costing more money. The use of jewels in a quartz watch has its merits and advantages Jul 6, 2019"

(C) A FavoriteMy Favorite Jack-in-the-box restaurant.  This ] was our first breakfast after our marriage the day before, on February 1973.  We had honeymooned in San Antonio, Texas, and this Jack was across the street.  Note that there was no drive in service.  Our hotel was on the famed Riverwalk.  (Our honeymoon breakfast plus link) (San Antonio [Texas] Riverwalk link)

Street/ReflectionsJiving along on two wheels on a street in India.

The Bride and Groom

She is my love, I carry her picture
For forty-eight years the Lord has been true

That day so long ago I made my vow
To have and to hold, to cherish and love

She was naïve, tender, and oh so sweet
She loved me too, she'd love, honor, obey

We've kept those vows--our love has grown still more
I'd do it again, I know she would too

Letter "Y" -- -- Weekend Roundup and Street/Reflections

THE TWENTY-FIFTH LETTER FOR THIS SERIES - The Letter "Y" Prompts are: (A) Starts with the Letter "Y"; (B) "Yellow" (Tom's Choice); (C) A Favorite; (D) Street/Reflections; and (E) A Lagniappe.

 - - - -

Mission de Corpus Christi de la Ysleta
Mission de Corpus Christi de la Ysleta [photo courtesy of Wikipedia Commons]

(A) Starts with the Letter "Y":   "Ysleta" starts with "Y".  Ysleta is now a part of El Paso, Texas, although until the forced annexation of 1955 it was a city of it's own.  Back in the late 1950's and early 1960's I rode my Vespa Motorscooter many times to and through Ysleta.

My favorite time was gathering mistletoe for Christmas from the trees in the ditches along the highway.  The very old Ysleta Mission is also here, a part of the National Park Service.   You can read of the mission here.

(B) "Yellow" (Tom's Choice):   This is a Yellow service Car for the railroad.  They used to be hand cars but this one is too large for that and has an engine.

I found it at one of the the railway depots at Cinque Terre ,  a  region composed of five villages on the Italian Riviera.   It appears to have been 'out of service' for quite a while.

(C) A Favorite:  This Yellow and Purple Taxi is Mrs. Jim's and my Favorite because those are her school's,  LSU, Colors.   The red sign in the window says it is a Ferrari but do not believe that.

(D) Street/Reflections:   Found at Albert-Kahn Gardens, Paris (link). Go there if you get a chance.  In east Paris, you can take the subway/train.  It's a peaceful visit, the park isn't crowded and there's even an ATM across the street at a small branch bank.
From a previously posted Poem,  "Blue Rain",
http://jimmiehov6.blogspot.com/2009/06/one-single-impression-blue-rain.html?m=1

(E) A Lagniappe:  "Y" is for the Yellow Cars I have known.  Posted here are a few.  You can click on any of the pictures to see a larger size view.

Above left, is a toy car belonging to KP's friend who was three years old.  It was one of his favorites.  On the right, with Mrs. Jim 'driving', is a toy car at the Peppa Pigland Park near Southampton, U.K. where back in 2012 we visited while on a British holiday for about five weeks.  Did you note that the other two passengers, KP and me (JIM), are (not) hanging on tightly?

Now we see the railroad Yellow car, again transporting KP and Mrs. Jim.  Then there is the Peppa Pig Yellow Bus showing off at Peppa Pigland.

A Random Five post [015] — Feline Friday — Venice to Athens via the Black Sea [001 London to Venice]

.
My Five for Today:.....
[and the cats turned out ......
to be dogs for today] ......

One:  This is my unoficial profile picture for the duration of this series of posts.  Mr. Tin Man will remain but "Jim with a sign and a dog at the Varlaam Monastery, Meteora, Greece" should appear on this series. [Mr. Tim Man

The series will be of our Pacific Princess cruise from Venice, Italy, to Athens, Greece, via the Black Sea.

Two:  Say "Hello to the sleeping dog and KP."  We are riding the Gatwick Express Train from London to the Gatwick Airport where we will catch our plane to Venice.  Both of these little folk needed a nap.

We spent the night at the Sofitel Gatwick Hotel so we could be ready for our early morning flight.  Our room was very nice as we got upgraded to be across the hall from Karen and KP's room.  She is a Premium member which helped us a lot.

Three:  We boarded our ship about noon but it wasn't to depart until after nine.   The Pacific Princess is a Princess 'small ship.'  I think it was to hold 685 passengers and we were pretty well full.

Our room was eighth from the front in the middle row of balcony rooms,of the Port Side of the ship.   Six are showing here on the Starboard Side.

After we ate lunch on ship we took a water taxi over to the Old Venice Downtown.  All four of us had been there before so we mostly walked around.  Our other time was in 1980, Karen and KP were there a year ago.
.
.

Four:  KP was chasing birds again.  In the lower left picture you can see one flying ahead of her.  I don't see her in the right picture but she didn't get lost.

[Click on any picture to make it larger.  Use your "Back" button to return to the blog.]

Five:  Our Sail-Away time was 9:30.  By then we had eaten supper and were ready to 'party.'

We sailed through the old part of Venice where we had been earlier in the afternoon.  It was very pretty all lighted up for the night.

And after leaving the channel we had to check out the sun deck chairs.  They fit very nicely.

Next we were off to Split, Croatia.

I couldn't find a cat in Venice so
this is "Store Window Cat from Split."  Next week I will post
three other poses of Store Window Cat from Split.
I put her here now to keep me honest with Feline Friday
[click on her for a larger view].
