Back in 2006 we explored Sicicly for two weeks.  Then we took a Grand Circle excursion on the Amalfi
Coast for another week.

Starts with "S":   Snow starts with "S". [the top photo is of our backyard in November, 2020]

A Favorite:   Sidewalk Walking Information.

The Bride and Groom

She is my love, I carry her picture
For forty-eight (now fifty) years the Lord has been true

That day so long ago I made my vow
To have and to hold, to cherish and love

She was naïve, tender, and oh so sweet
She loved me too, she'd love, honor, obey

We've kept those vows--our love has grown still more
I'd do it again, I know she would too

Tom's choice, "Single":   We were Single before we got married, back in 1973.

Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures:  This woman had told me that the empty chair "was taken".  But it remained empty the whole half hour show.  She wouldn't look my way, I had found a lessor place and took this picture half way through the show.  [from our October cruise on the Regal Princess, 12 days, from Ft. Lauderdale to Galveston, Texas.  I was running away during my BIG birthday on October 30--that's why no posts for a couple of weeks.]

Lagniape:  A Slick 57 Ford Convertible.  [a NAPA Calendar photo--Mine was a '56 Ford Convertible, bought new]

The Letter "F" -- Weekend Roundup and Reflections

The thirty-first issue of Weekend Roundup for this year, 2020...
(THE SIXTH LETTER FOR THIS SERIES)
- the Letter "F" Prompts are:
(A) Starts with the Letter "F";
(B) "Full" (Tom's Choice);
(C) A Favorite; and
(D) Reflections.
_ _ _ _

(A) Starts with the Letter "F": "Ford" begins with the Letter "F".  This is a picture of a 1941 Ford Pickup from my truck calendar for 2020.  I am not sure why my scanner did make me a color copy.

My Grandfather H. had a 3/4 ton 1941 Ford pickup that he used to haul his horses.  Grandpa had a male breeding horse that the neighbors would 'board' for a half day, more or less.  Sometimes I would ride with him when he was 'making rounds.'

The time I remember best was when my little sister, Lois, was born at home.  I was five and Grandpa came to our farm home to get me for riding.  He did sometimes take me for rides in his car also.
[click picture for larger size, click again for super sized]

I have owned three pickup trucks, a 1972 and a 1975 Datsun, and a 1986 Chevy S-10.  They all treated me right, I have the grill from one hanging in our garage.  I have not owned a Ford pickup, but many Fords (click list of cars I owned).

I worked for Ford Aerospace for 17 years and bought several as returns, one year old, from upper Ford executive perk rentals.  Those cars were two 1976  Granadas, a 1969 Thunderbird, and a 1974 Mustang II Ghia.  I bought from Ford new a 1967 Station Wagon and a 1972 Pinto.  Three of the cars,  the Pinto were totaled by the Tropical Storm Claudia flooding.

(B) "Full" (Tom's Choice):  This Coke Float makes for a Glass Full

(C)  A "Favorite":  My Feet across the room from our Fireplace.

I have been thinking about having another Favorite Foot Contest, could be a Pretty Feet, an Ugly Foot, or just plain Foot Contest.  But maybe not, I don't have nearly as many readers as I used to.  I could run it on Facebook too to get enough Entrants and Voters.

Maybe I won't have it.

(B)  "Full":  About Half Full of my boyhood marbles.  This is  the butter churn we used on the farm before we sold cream to the local creamery.  It sits on the night stand in our guest room.

A lot of my marbles were Hand-me-downs from telatives making them over one hundred years old.  The ones I  got with my money could be over eighty.

I didn't have other kids to play shooting marbles with and lose so i accumulated quite a few.

(D) Reflections:  I took the marbles in a churn pictires in the guest room bath.  The mirror is against the wall as is the shower beside the vanity.

It wasnt intended for a Reflection but it will be different than my usual ponds and buildings.  And lo and behold another with the mirror caught me as a selfie. [click picture for larger size, click again for super sized]

~~ Friday’s Hunt v.3.04 -- "D" is for ...

For the week of January 27th:  (1) Starts with D; (2) Week's Favorite; and (3) Close up

(1) Starts with "D":  "D" is for dog.  This is George, a rather large pup at this time.  He belongs to the people living across the street from KP.

"D" is also for Dusk.  This is one of the little duck watering ponds along the paths where we go walking.

And finally, "D" is for DodgeDodge cars and trucks.  This one is on my 2017 Jim's Best Hardware new calendar for the February page.  The truck is a 1928 Dodge Panel Truck.

The other car, stopped ahead of us in the Car Rider Lane at KP's school this morning is also a Dodge, a fairly late model Dodge Charger (I think).  It had nice pretty sounding rumbling exhausts.

(2) Week's Favorite:  Not really favorite, likely to be the least favorite.

We had a night of nasty cold temperatures, it got down into the lower 20's.  Things looked better today because a couple of fellows cut some of the for dead-sure and hanging stuff out.  Like the fronds on the trees behind.  The oaks keep their leaves year round, the bottle brushes withstood pretty well.

(3) Close upDo you know what this is?  Sure, a bucket and three yellow hollowed out yellow rubber sponges.  But what is it for, what does it do?

Here's a purple one doing what it is meant to be doing.  To find out, click on the dark line here: ___________

(4) Some Valparaiso, Chile, pictures  from our South American cruise (L.A. California to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)(click on the picture to enlarge--click again to make it super sized):

Mrs. Jim and I and another lady hired a taxi for the afternoon (four hours) we had free in Valparaiso.  I'm posting some here so that you can get the lay of the land. Our visit was on December 21, 2016.

The highlight of our afternoon probably was a visit to the Valparaiso home of the award winning poet, Pablo Neruda (Wikipedia Link).  For an avowed communist, he had more houses than he needed, three.

I ended with Pablo Neruda's home.  It is atop the hill, looking over the harbor and out to sea.  Inspirational for some nice poetry.  Read of this world famous poet here, read more of Valparaiso here.

~~ Friday’s Hunt v.2.23 -- "W" is for ... (also a little Quiz)

Friday's Hunt for the week of December 2nd: (1) Starts with "W"; (2) Week's Favorite; and (3) Machine

(1a) Starts with "W": "Where?"  Also known as (AKA) "Where am I?"
 - That question is my Quiz.  See "ANSWER" below to find out.
ANSWER to Quiz: Highlight the blank area below:

I am (was) in St. Remy, France.  Van Gogh lived there almost a year, in a sanatorium where he admitted himself after he cut his ear off. We spent a week there in town, St. Remy
For a peek at Van Gogh's picture of the same garden, go here:
http://jimmiehov.blogspot.com/2007/03/this-is-day-lord-has-made-let-us.html

(1b) Starts with "W": "W" is for Win

1970 Hemi Cuda vs 1969 L88 Corvette  -- I'd love for the Cuda to win but I'll put my money (a saying, I don't gamble) on the Corvette.
Your prediction?

. I have had three Chrysler products, ranking them in like and dependability:
(1st) 1976 Plymouth Volare station wagon (picture link) Had Mrs. Jim voted, it would not be # 1 on my list.  It was susceptible to rusting and had a rust hole in the floor board, nicely covered with a floor mat.  But she was afraid of falling through.
 - When it had over 150K miles we took it from Houston to the East Coast up to New Hampshire, across over to Niagara, Canada, on through and down to Detroit, then, stopping at Nebraska, on back to Texas.
 - At 176K miles it developed a bad, fast transmission leak.  I sold it for $600, then the buyer stopped it with stop leak.  It may still be running.
(2nd) 1984 Dodge 600 Convertible (picture link) (A fun car, mine wasn't a turbo, it had a regular Mitsubishi 2.4 four cylinder engine); and
 (3rd) 1980 Chrysler Cordoba (
picture link).  It got us where we needed to go.

 (2) Week's Favorite:

Got five 2017 calendars Tuesday.  I wanted my 2017 N A P A Classic Car calendar but they weren't in yet.  We were in Magnolia, Montgomery, Conroe, and The Woodlands as I usually get them at either Montgomery or Conroe.  The local hardware had these.

I may not make it back up before mid-January and often they are out by then.  I have all issues except the very first one, early 1960's edition. (link to some here on my blog
.
.
.
.
(3) Machine -- my '70 Cuda and 69 Corvette cars and the 1946 Chevy pickup will be my machines.

Sorry it's mostly cars.  I hope you like Van Gogh.  I do.

Next time it might be better.  Some Birds?

October is ... another Saturday poem

[Texas Lighthouse at Point Bolivar]

October

October is a cow, a female cow
She will moo for you and make you a shake
You have no choice but for you to rejoice

October is a pig, big old spoiled boar
He won't pay you never mind so you think
Walk past him quickly, he is gonna grunt

October is a baby chick, come quick
see how fast it learns, today tries to crow
Tomorrow it is to scratch, dig for worm

October is all the pets on my farm
Donkey Don, Billy goat, Cilly sheep, Shep
I've named them all, won't bore you with no more

Well except just one more, my favorite
October is my trusty horse, my love
Harley cares for me, nuzzles and gives me rides

~~ Friday’s Hunt v.2.15 -- "O" is for ...

Friday's Hunt for the week of October 7th:  (1) Starts with "O"; (2) Favorite; and (3) Eyes.

(1) Starts with "O": "Oh!!"  I made a terrible mistake, I was thinking all week long that this would be 'starts with "P".'  Guess the "Oh" might could do. But I looked around my computer and found three fairly decent posting.  (I don't throw things away.)

"O" is for Olympics.  Do you remember the 2014 Olympics when in February the artist responsible for this Olympic Ring display made a big mistake and consequently it was said that because he felt so badly committed suicide? Not true according to Buzzfeed dot com (link).

"O" is for Oil.  Our Houston is the Oil Capital of the United States, probably of the world.  But back in the 60's people were discovering that Oil could be found in some of the less developed countries.

"O" is also for October.  I like October because my birthday is here, the 30th.  But also Halloween, the 31st, is a lot of fun for the kids.  The lighthouse here is one of Texas's five, this one is at the near-to-us Bolivar Peninsola.  Port Isabel is the only one open to the public (Texas lighthouse Google link).

(2) Favorite: Not really, the word favorite is an oxymoron here.  Our 2011 automobile wouldn't start and we had to have it towed into the dealer.  It has an extended warranty so since it was mechanical and electrical, the starter motor just whirred, it should be covered.  The fuse block under back seat, beside the battery, had melted.  When I asked about fire, the service manager said that "there were no flames."

Tomorrow, Saturday, the dealer will begin repairs, but not on the offending fuel pump yet (I don't really the symptoms we had experienced could be fuel pump related, but ... it will get fixed).  But meantime, during the "courtesy checkout" oil leaks were discovered.  That involves massive gasket replacement and the pulling of the engine.

We borrowed a loan car to go to Mrs. Jim's family reunion last weekend but tomorrow we will pick up a loaner for the duration.  My 1998 Mustang is 18 years old and runs good, 109K miles on it, but at times we still in our retired life are in the need of two cars.

Oh yes, the warranty covers it all except an oil filter and needed cabin and air filters, to the tune, GM's, of $5215.

 (3) EyesMs. Old Maid is on the look out for a good husband, even at her older age.  Here she is ogling someone big time with her perky eye.  The other relates information, the perky eye attracts.  (Somehow this is brimming with "O" words.)

The picture above shows the aftermath at our able after my loss at the Old Maid game.  Mrs. Jim and I played with KP.  Old Maid is one of her favorite games.  (Tomorrow she, now seven, is playing soccer.)
