Weekend Roundup -- 14-18(b) (for letter "N") -- Reflections too

The 40th issue of Weekend Roundup for this year...
The week's prompts:
(1) Starts with "N"; (2) A Favorite; (3) Near; and (4) Reflections
.

(1) Starts with "N": Nebraska starts with "N".  This plate was the green Mustang II that Mom had in Nebraska, the one that I showed last week with the "M's".  Now that I have the car I have a set of Texas 1974 original license plates for it.

(2) A Favorite:  Chile Relleno is my favorite Mexican food. Normally one Pablono with beans, rice, and some Pico de Galle makes a meal.  This one made two meals as I took half of it home.  Note, the beans are El Charo, sort of a bean soup.  I like them much better than the refried beans.

(3) Near:  "Near" yesterday and today was the thick Fog. We could reach out and touch it.  Note the pool is reflecting the dismal greyish fog.

(4) Reflections: the windows on the side of the tall building at the Houston Medical Center.  This was taken from the 27th floor of my cardiologist patient waiting room. [click on picture to enlarge]

High School Reunion — Six Word Saturday — A Chuckle

.
My six words:

48 graduated — 18 came — 18 deceased
[Click on picture to enlarge. Click agan for super sizing.]
We had our class reunion on May 26, 2011. Our school was Tekamah High School of Tekamah, Nebraska. We had our BIGGIE ten years ago for the fifty. Only three of us had died then. After the picture taking all the graduates and family had a nice dinner in the city auditorium.

There were two more in the morning. Rhoda and her friend (I can't remember names) came to the luncheon but they had to leave in the afternoon. When I came over to Rhoda's table they all smiled and chuckled a little bit. Rhoda told me that they had been talking and had decided that I (Jim H.) was one of the deceased. We all chuckled some more.

Meet the cousins — MidWeek Blues —

.
This summer in our trip to Nebraska and Iowa we wanted to attend my high school (Tekamah, Nebraska) and to visit three 'local' cousins. When we got there we called all the cousins. They were home so we would visit them on the next day, Friday.

Our first visit was with our cousin, John. John is now living in the local nursing home. He was doing really good compared to the last time we visited. While there his brother, our cousin Jack, also visited.

My sister was already with us, she came over from Iowa to accompany us with the cousin visit.

Left to right above we have John, Lois, me (Jim), and Jack.

Next after lunch (link), we (Lois, BIL Jim W, Mrs. Jim, and I) drove to the country out west of Herman, Nebraska, to visit our cousin, Jean and her husband, Dwain. The live on a farm and still operate it and several others with the help of their son.

At right you see Jean. She was telling us the story of how she came to own this "HANDY DUST CLEANER, as seen on TV." I don't think very good directions came with it but we all had some suggestions as to what to do with it how to use it. My suggestion was to 're-gift it.'

As usual, Jean had coffee, tea, and some very nice baked items for us. Before we left we had a very nice strawberry dessert. She always does does that. In the South we call that Southern hospitality.

It was almost dark when we left. We were traveling with two dogs, Adi and Katrin, and they had come along with us that day. Lois and Jim W. went on to their home in Iowa as they would not be attending the high school reunion on Saturday.

Our day Saturday started our again with another visit with John. We were pleasantly surprised when my cousin, Don and his wife, Phil, showed up from Missouri. They were classmates in school up at Craig, Nebraska, and had come for their reunion.

Left to right is Don,me, and John. Before lunch we all left John to do reunion activities with our ex-classmates. It was unusual perhaps, but all us cousins were wearing blue so that made it perfect for today's post.

Our cousin visits were wonderful. Three were missing, Ione (Garfield Arkansas), Bud (Longmont Colorado), and Dick (Beatrice, Nebraska). All of us except for Jean and Dwain are fairly well retired.

These were our fathers and grandparents.

Where has Jim Been — MidWeek Blues — A Quiz (another)

.These have been on my blog several times. The Runza is considered by many, the Jim's included, to be the National Food of Nebraska.

I had my first Runza in Lincoln, Nebraska. The owner of the original Runza Hut started all this in a little restaurant in a former home out by Antelope Park. You could walk up to the window and order. Either to go or to take to a picnic bench under the trees and awnings to eat on premise. He did have a couple of tables inside for rainy days.

Actually, we ate these Runzas in Iowa while at my sister, Lois' home. But we did buy them in Nebraska.

So,
Answer to Quiz: Jim has been to Nebraska!!
Recipes
Locations are pretty well anyplace in Nebraska, in Lawrence, Kansas, and two in Colorado.

Other exciting things happened in Nebraska.

At the old City Cafe in Tekamah, now TailGaitors, we had our noon meal. I had a TailGator Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich. It was better than the last one I had their under previous owners. Theirs came out of a plastic bag frozen from the restaurant supply company. That one really needed two bags dumped into the bun. This one was on the skimpy side but the taste was delicious.

Another item of amusement was in watching the shredder people come to a local nursing home and shred two baskets of paper. I was interested in how the control panel worked. It was complete with a TV monitor showing the shredding operation inside and operated by an internal computer. It even had a remote starter for the truck engine.

Besides two of three of these Nebraska items, Runza paper and Big Shredder, had blue for MidWeek Blues posting here.
