A Random Five post [014] — Feline Friday — Northampshire Visit
One: This is Midnight, may he RIP. Midnight was my BIL's (Danny's) very good friend and favorite cat.
But he died in surgery this week. Danny has several cats, another was on my blog for Feline Friday (link) when he was stocking our Katrin from a high perch.
Earlier this week we visited with our friends, Graham and Marion, in Northampshire (U.K.). We stayed two days there.
We couldn't decide which was the best, their wonderful hospitality, all of the sights they showed us, or all of the good British foods they made or led us to.
This picture was taken while we had a lunch break. We were at the Spencer Manor (Princess Diana's home) which we visited with them. Following will be a three pictures of cats that I found in their home. [You can make any picture larger by clicking on it.]
Two: This ceramic cat on the left swings in the upstairs bath. You can see a little of his swing as he hangs from a ceiling light switch.
Three: Next is Splodge. He was named that because as a baby he had a dark "splodge" (U.K. for the American English word of 'splotch') on his head between his ears. I say was because he also has been RIP for several years. He was Marion's favorite of the litter.
Two others were 'splodged cats' having grey stripes and splotches. Splodge lost his splodge while still a kitten. (Google link for images of other "splodge cats")
At various times of the day and with our other meals we also had tea. Afternoon tea (no picture) was also with Marion's delicious baked goods. My favorite was her mince meat cake.
Five: Assorted pictures of eating themes follow. (Note: this will be my last Feline Friday post and Random Five post for a few weeks as my blogging will be halted for an August break.)
We had American food on July 31 at a Buddies USA restaurant (link). Mrs. Jim had a nice looking hamburger with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. The rest of us had hot dogs for the U.S. National Hot Day Month's ending.
I had this chili dog. It was very similar to an American chili dog with wiener, cheese, chili, and onion. With it came a salad, French fries ('chips'), and three Burger King style onion rings. Except that the onion was fried in a German style while U.S. onions are raw and chopped. It was so good that I didn't even put any French's Mustard on until the last few bites.
We all stopped at the bar. I had a fish pie made primarily with salmon and other vegetables. I was also served dish of vegetables as a side and shared with Graham his 'chips' (very delicious French fries). Mrs. Jim had the special, Marion had a duck leg, and Graham had a steak.
He and others have a Mr. Linky going there so you can see other cats too.

Dress of the evening was Blue Jeans — MidWeek Blues —
The occasion was Mrs. Jim's Sunday school class Halloween party last October. Every year a member who lives just out of town hosts a wiener roast at his East Texas piney woods home.
If you want to post a MidWeek Blues picture, go get directions from Rebecca by clicking on the logo picture on the right. She has a Mr. Linky and good directions . Just do what I did..Labels: Eating, Holiday Posts, Jim Bunch Eats, Men in Blue, Midweek-Blues

Hot Dog !! ~~ Warm Heart Wednesday No. 020
Today they are a dollar at our local Sonic drive in/thru restaurant. Limit three, plain, dressed, or with chili.
I'll get three with chili. Take them home after stopping at our Kroger store for a few items, and add some cheese and mustard. I will eat one, Mrs. Jim eats one, and will save the other for a snack.
[Click on the picture for a larger view on a cheese hot dog that I make.]
My cheese is generally low or no-fat, the hot dog is, if I find them priced right, is Oscar Meyer bun length, Ball Park are okay if I don't like the other's price.

Have you had your car read lately? #006 -- Looks like a nice fellow here
That's too pretty a Mustang to treat it badly? Is this car owner (not the rapper guy) feeding his car hot dogs?
That hot dog does look pretty good, it is a 'Johnsonville' wiener with lots of sweet relish and mustard.
This scene says wonders for the owner. He has good taste. (Reminds me of Charlie Tuna, in his commercial he says "we want tuna that tastes good, not tuna with good taste.")
Too, this driver has good taste in automobiles. Who wouldn't drool for this shiny black Mustang GT Convertible! He sure does keep it polished as well, that shows he is cool and collected and always wants to show his good side. He may not even have a bad side.
I don't see him listening to that rapper. This shows our driver has good taste in music, I hear his favorites are classic rock and oldies from the 60s and 70s. You just can't beat this fellow. Not even with a stick.
Now I'll show you what else I found.
Now we know where he is and where he 'buys' his hot dogs. Hot dogs are Free! I only see one so he doesn't over eat either. He must be tall and handsome and well disciplined with his eating. [Please note that I didn't say cheap. We do see that the second hot dog is regular price, 99¢.]
It isn't a JACK IN THE BOX hot dog, but rather a Quickstuff hot dog. I asked the owner if all Shell gas stations had free hot dogs on Friday (I was going to get one here and another one down the road at the next Shell station.).
The attendant said no, only the Shell stations with a Jack in the Box were having Free Hot Dog Fridays. She added that this Shell station was the only one in Conroe, Texas, having a Jack in the Box. Darn.
Now lets follow the fellow to the gas pump.
What has happened here, wasn't this supposed to be a Shell station?
Our driver is also prudent. Shell gas was $3.41 a gallon so our buddy drove his Mustang over to the Exxon station where it was only $3.37 a gallon. He was saving 48¢ on his gasoline!
Well, didn't he buy an exhorbantly high priced drink at one of those stops? No, our driver had brought his own canned Diet Coke in his cooler.
He really is prudent, he saved $1.47 on this gas and food purchase plus the price of a drink. I did note also that over by his home, gasoline was $3.45 and $3.49 a gallon at the Citgo or other Exxon stations.
I believe he is a winner.
Really good after that last few weeks of weirdos.
I saw a few cowboy churches and quite a few Hispanic churches. All are within a 35 mile radius of our home.

And? A little quiz here
UPDATE (answer):
Thanks for trying guys, I know you aren't mind readers.
This is my simple way of fixing my hot dog buns, pictures below.
Lay the hot dog bun down on the cutting board, sliced side up.
With a sharp knife, cut a new opening, pretty well straight downward. Be careful to not reach the bottom of the bun.
Slice sideways from on cut to another. Life out the wedge of bread.
Prepare one (or a half) slice of no fat cheese cut into strips to lay in the newly cut valley in the bun.
Toast the bun, open side down laid ON TOP of the toaster. Before toasting, place the cut out portion(s) standing up in the toaster well to toast them as well.
Quickly lay the cheese into the warm bun slice place.
Place a wiener onto the cheese slices.
Put the hot dog sandwich in the microwave oven, heat for approximately 20 seconds until the cheese begins to melt.
Serve with condiments of your choice. I prefer relish and mustard as the picture shows.
Approximately 310 calories using regular 8 to a pound Oscar Meyer wieners.
ANSWER TO THE QUIZ QUESTION:
You can see, the long pieces are what has been removed from three hot dog buns.
The smaller pieces on the left have been rescued from the toaster.
Now, use these pieces as croutons for soup, salad, or eating. You could also saute them with butter and garlic for a really yummy snack.
At our house Adi eats these as treats as Mrs. Jim and I eat our hot dogs.
