Letter "X" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 08 / Reflections and-or Street Captures

This Week's Prompts: A word with an "X"; A Favorite; and Looks like an "X".
 _ _ _ _

[Click on the above for larger view]

A word with an "X"
:   Maximilian is a name with an "X".  He was an appointed emperor of Mexico until the time of his death in 1867 when he was shot dead.

A Favorite:   Handicap parking calls for Excellent Skill and being Extra Careful

The marker was not hurt in the least, I just pulled it out and straightened it up.

Looks like an "X":  Make the "X" and drive or back the second car in, underneath the first one, now upper.

Reflections and Street Captures:   Another double, note the "and" here.  My photo was taken of a large mirror, it was reflecting the gentleman making ready to exercise.

Letter "K" -- Weekend Roundup

THE ELEVENTH LETTER FOR THIS SERIES) - the Letter "K" Prompts are: (A) Starts with the Letter "Kooky"; (B) "Kooky" (Tom's Choice); (C) A Favorite; (D.1 & D.2) A Reflection/Street Scene and Lagniappe.
  _ _ _ _

[ The Blarney Stone is a part of the structure in the top passage inside this tower outside Killarney. ]

(A) Starts with the Letter "K":  Killarny, Ireland, starts with the letter "K".  I have Kissed the Blarney Stone on two different visits. (Read more
.
[large picture] [super size]

Our nice B&B in Killarney, we stayed there three different years. (Read More)  I found a four leaf clover beside the sidewalk while walking down into the town.

Remember to wear Green next Wednesday for St. Patrick's Day.

 _ _ _ _

(Down pictures, Kooky town of Luckenbach, Texas).

.
First picture is the 'food to go' kitchen. Next is the inside of the men's room. Last on the right is the outside of this building. Mrs. Jim said the women's room had stalls with curtains for doors.

Here, at Luckenbach,  Texas (google link), the action is starting. We were there from about 6:00 PM to around 7:15 and this fellow was playing and singing on the stage the whole time.

Mrs. Jim was waiting for me to come back from the men's room. The last picture says the singer is taking a break and that 'all that's left is us chickens.' Happy picnicking with your food on those tables. Shoo the chickens off first.

Answer, if you believe the Bible is true, the chicken.  Genesis says that God created the fowls, it doesn't say that he made eggs.   He made chickens so that the chicken could make her eggs.

Now, also the Kook or Kooky as both being words.  Please see google's answer in "D" below.

(C) A Favorite:   Keeping with Texas Spring Tradition, this Redbud Tree that we found on our Wednesday's walk decided to bloom.  Note the brown grass due to our recent cold, very cold.  But the Redbud Tree stood ready to bloom.

(D.1) A LagniappeKook or Kooky?

Now you know.

(D.2) Street Photo and another  Lagniappe:  Where I broke my Kneecap, at Powerscourt Garden, Ireland.  I fell on these steps going down the hill into the garden, the Young Lady sitting there and another fellow helped me get up.   They overcame my objections, I didn't want to get up, rather just lay there and misserate. (Read More)
  _ _ _ _

Bonus Questions:

(1)  Tell about your accident or other some other unusual experience away from home that you'd like to share.  Besides breaking my kneecap, I would tell about backing our rental SUV in Italy into a bruiser monster truck double parked behind me.  Several witnesses told me to hurry and leave before the owner came back.  Fearing an altercation by judging the frenzied motioning we did leave, quickly.  The rental people passed this damage on as I had noted previous damage there at the time we picked it up.

(2) What is your favorite Word starting with "K"?  Mine today will be  "King", because at my age people have started treating me like a "King"

(3) Anything else you were reminded of here that you  would like to tell about?

Letter "P" ~~ Weekend Roundup

I was saddened to read this today.  At NASA I worked with Owen Garriott when he first began training for Sky Lab.  I gave him his first lesson, "Orientation to the Sky Lab Cabin and Controls" on the Mock-up we had for training purposes.

From http://www.arrl.org/news/amateur-radio-in-space-pioneer-astronaut-owen-garriott-w5lfl-sk :
"04/15/2019
The US astronaut who pioneered the use of Amateur Radio to make contacts from space — Owen K. Garriott, W5LFL — died April 15 at his home in Huntsville, Alabama. He was 88. Garriott’s ham radio activity ushered in the formal establishment of Amateur Radio in space, first as SAREX — the Shuttle Amateur Radio Experiment, and later as ARISS — Amateur Radio on the International Space Station.

“Owen Garriott was a good friend and an incredible astronaut,” fellow astronaut Buzz Aldrin tweeted. “I have a great sadness as I learn of his passing today. Godspeed Owen.”

An Oklahoma native, Garriott — an electrical engineer — spent 2 months aboard the Skylab space station in 1973 and 10 days aboard Spacelab-1 during a 1983 Space Shuttle Columbia mission. It was during the latter mission that Garriott thrilled radio amateurs around the world by making the first contacts from space. Thousands of hams listened on 2-meter FM, hoping to hear him or to make a contact. Garriott ended up working stations around the globe, among them such notables as the late King Hussein, JY1, of Jordan, and the late US Senator Barry Goldwater, K7UGA. He also made the first CW contact from space. Garriott called hamming from space “a pleasant pastime"...(more at the link above)”

We have a couple of pottery pieces designed and crafted by the now deceased former Mrs. Garriott, a "Moon Jar" and a "Sun Jar" that we proudly display at our home.  You can see them here on my older blog post.

Additionally, their daughter was in one of my college classes, taking it for dual credit, college and high school.  We did discuss her brother who later also traveled to the Space Station as a civilian.

I am a Ham Radio licensee but never did make contact with any of the Garriott's via Ham Radio.

Passing starts with "G".  Please read above of the passing this week of a work friend, Astronaut Owen Garriott.  We didn't see each other after I left the space program to teach Business courses at the  community  college.

Weekend Roundup -- 11-18 (for letter "K")

The 11th issue of Weekend Roundup for this year...
The week's prompts:

(1) Starts with "K"; (2) A Favorite; (3) Kids; and (4) Lagniappe

(1) Starts with "K": Kolaches starts with "K".  Our daughter bought us this pictured above Kolache, it is a Sausage and Cheese Kolache left over from some more that she and KP brought.  Since it was a leftover, I modified it by adding half a hard fried egg.  Below are a 'work in progress' and an 'almost finished eating' pictures. [click on any picture to see it in larger sizes, one or two clicks]

2) A Favorite: This is our lemon tree.  It could be a lime tree, we've not had one piece of fruit from it before so we aren't sure what it is.  It blooms in the spring but doesn't set on fruit.  A rain we had beat off a lot of the blossoms, you can see some of the fallen pieces below the tree in the first picture.

We don't see any bees.  Our long term U.S. Senator killed a bill for the Federal Government to spend money trying to figure out why the bees are declining drastically.  I don't think he believes in Climate Change either.

(3) Kids: This shamrock was drawn and painted by KP, our youngest granddaughter.  She says it is a four leaf clover but aren't they the same?  Dunno for sure but I always thought so.

Source, "How Stuff Works"
(4) LagniappeKaiser starts with "K".  Manufacture of Kaiser-Frazer cars began after WWII in 1946.  "The company was founded on July 25, 1945 and in 1946 K-F displayed prototypes of their two new cars at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City. The Kaiser was of an advanced front wheel drive design while the Frazer was an upscale conventional rear wheel drive car... " Wikiepedia, link

"By the end of 1946, over 11,000 cars (total Kaiser and Frazer) went out to dealers and distributors; many of them sold to retail owners... (in) 1948, the 300,000th car came off the production line.  In 1950, Kaiser-Frazer began production of a compact car, the Henry J and ended production of the Frazer automobile... In 1952 and 1953 Kaiser-Frazer provided Sears Roebuck & Co. with Allstate-branded automobiles that Sears sold through selected Sears Auto Centers... " Wikipedia, Kaiser Motors, link

~~ Friday’s Hunt v.2.16 -- "P" is for ... [sign says]

Friday's Hunt for the week of October 14th: (1) Starts with "P"; (2) Week's Favorite; and (3) Whole:

1. Starts with "P":  Sign on the road said, "Pick your own Pumpkins."

Sure, you can pick from one of these or from any of those below.  Also there are other's inside with the vegetables.  Pumpkins are my favorite vegetable, baked in a pie.  We first heard of that ruse in Vermont, south a bit from Stowe.  Only it was apples this time, with a big sign before out on the road of course.

(2)  Week's favorite:  Do you have your Pneumonia shot yet?  People over 60 should get one every five years.  When I first started getting them it was every ten years.  This was my first year for that five year thing.
 (3) Whole:  I can't believe I ate the Whole Thing

There is a new Mexican restaurant across the street from the subdivision where we live before moving.  Mrs. Jim and I stopped there to eat a bite.  So we ordered off the 'Lunch Menu.'

Mrs. Jim and I each ordered the same plate.  Actually we got two plates for a total of four.  I had a beef taco and a guacamole salad on one and the other was two chicken enchiladas, rice, and a small bowl of beans charro.  Before these came we munched on Corn Chips with sauce from three smaller bowls.    That was all for $5.99.  And since they didn't have their liquor license yet, drinks were free also.  The food was great!!

(4)  Bonus:  I generally have a car of some kind.  On our trip to Louisiana last weekend we came up on this vehicle full of little green aliens from another planet.

Click on it to get it large enough to see the green aliens inside.  Some days they hide.
