So here she is right after her bath yesterday. She was all frisky but decided it would be OK to settle down enough for me to take her picture or two. She will have her own post not too long from now.
MacDonald's cup holding procedure:
Do you think they do this so that the clumsy help they hire won't be so apt to drop the cup.
The lady in a different colored dress was doing this at the Sealy, Texas, MacDonald's Restaurant last Friday. That different color dress denoted either supervisor status or a trainee. I don't know which suited her.
At Hurst, Texas (1401 W Pipeline Rd), it was a young man who grabbed every cup with his fingers inside. He had on a regular colored outfit. And he didn't look like he was just hired yesterday, he was knowing what to do and he did most tasks rather quickly.
What about your MacDonald's, is this a nationwide procedure now?

Have you had your car read lately? #012 -- Eyes on the road there, boy!
There's something pretty interesting over this way but I can't remember if I ever knew. It wasn't me. I didn't hang around long enough to see if he ran into those pedestrians ahead. Nothing was in the paper about it so he must have corrected for them while I wasn't looking.
What do we know about this fellow? For one thing, he is advertising for his grandfather's restaurant. In Texas, it might be a pub cause they have really good food. I don't know about the beer, it looked like I think beer should.
Mom used to tell me, "you don't find nice girls at a bar." That was back in the old days, it still might go today. But there were some nice girls in that bar the night we went. We went to eat at the
Now for the rest of the story:
That kid's toy John Deere was stolen not long after. Of course it was a bad day at his household. To make matters worse, it was insured as a part of the home contents and the deductible was more than the tractor cost.
You would think either it would be recovered or be lost to him forever.
I found his tractor in a chop shop lot last week. I turned it in to the authorities but it was gone by the time they got over there. Guess I should have called 911, the police said, no, that I had done right. They were just very busy that day. I just hope they hadn't stopped for a donut. I couldn't smell any sweets on their breath so maybe not.
That still wasn't the end. The little tractor didn't get chopped for parts after all. I saw it down the road from us working in the ditches, filling in the wash-out holes, mowing grass, and hauling dirt and trash.
Again I called the authorities, they came faster this time. But they found bad news. The tractor could not be identified as the serial numbers had been ground off. Even those on the axle were burnished smooth.
You do know that's how they caught up with the Oklahoma City bombers, Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols . They didn't know that rental trucks had their serial numbers engraved on their rear differential or axle housing. You've heard about dumb crooks, those guys were at the top of the list.
I will keep tabs on that little toy John Deere. If it wears out so badly it can't do road work it might be up for sale again. I will buy it for that kid. I will also buy him some defensive driving lessons.
I like to buy kids things, check this out from Thursday, June 05, 2008

"Things I would do if I were a Billionaire:
I already am a billionaire. If I had several billion I would give more $$$$ away to those in need. I would buy hundreds of Big Kids Happy Meals for MacDonald's and pass them out to those who live under the bridges and in the tree settlements and give at least one to every person I see who was holding up a "Work for food" sign."

Sunday Lunch with the Jim Bunch (link):
.
MacDonald's on Sunday is getting to be a habit with us. Us is Mema, Mrs. Jim, and me.
We all ate for $6.50. Mema had a Double Cheeseburger Happy Meal, Mrs. Jim and I shared a chicken Snack Wrap and we ate most of the French fries from Mema's happy meal. Mrs. Jim and I also had Senior Diet Cokes.
The routine continues, Mema eats half of her Double Cheeseburger and puts the other in her purse for a pick-me-up in the afternoon, then the three of us share two Hot Fudge Sundaes. That makes for three pretty full-up seniors on a $6.50 investment.
.
The toy is for me. When asked whether a boy's toy or a girl's toy, I opt for the boy's. I would like to have a Hummer collection to go with my other cars and Happy Meal toys.
.
My Hummer was like the blue one on top. Boy was I thrilled. I haven't opened the cars, like the Beanie Babies, they will be more valuable unopened.
A twist here. This was my second Hummer toy, since my first one went to a little boy who didn't have a Happy Meal, this one would be the first for my collection.
Wouldn't you know it. Here was another little boy with his Daddy and two sisters, none of whom had eaten a Happy Meal. You guessed it, that little boy now has a nice new Hummer MacDonald's toy.
He opened the wrapper quickly too, right after a big smile followed with a very heartfelt "thank you." Maybe next time . . .
. . . next time, I can find still another little boy who needs a bright new Hummer toy.

A Random Five post [020] — Venice to Athens via the Black Sea [003 Istanbul, Turkey, part III]
One: We took off last weekend from blogging except for Sunday. I did post a couple of poems on my other blog though.I was teaching our class Sunday school lesson Sunday so I had been preparing for that. Plus Katrin (our toy poodle) has been on medications that make her vomit everything, food, drink, and pills, back up. I didn't even play golf Tuesday.
Then on Friday (by this time, I had Katrin off her meds) we left for Alexandria, La, for Mrs. Jim's family reunion.
I am sorry but I don't have any reunion pictures there. It was at Harold Miles Park which sits on the side of a bayou. We met mostly inside a screened pavilion. The room adjoining was air conditioned.
The two ladies on the right were greeting the attendees as they entered the church atrium. I caught the lady below carrying her "Eat at Joe's" sign the week before in church.
Below is a picture of our gym and large assembly room. These men (and I) were attending the Men's Power Lunch. We have one of these each first Monday of the month during the school year.
Our speaker this time was Lee Strobel, a former atheist who told of his reasoning for converting to be a Christian. He was at that time the Legal Editor of the Chicago Tribune. In 1981, after two years of exhaustive research he reported, "I realized it would take more faith to maintain my atheism than it would to become a Christian."
He is an attorney and writer, selling more than 10,000,000 of his books. At present he teaches apologetics as a professor at Houston Baptist University. You can read more of him at his Web site, www.leestrobel.com/ . Next month's guest will be singer and song writer, Larry Gatlin. I'll buy your lunch if you'll be my guest.
I had a belly dancer's daughter in my class at the college. They daughter also danced and taught our Business Club, Phi Beta Lambda, a routine to do to the tune of New York, New York. We then had a performing entry that year in the Mardi Gras in Galveston.
Below, left, is what we saw from our balcony in the evening. The blue light on the left is one of the two bridges spanning the Strait of Bosporus. The lights on the bridge put on a nice light show about every ten minutes. At the upper left side of the picture is a remote ship' bridge where the pilot stands to guide the ship up to the dock to anchor.
"From the date of its construction in 537 until 1453, it served as an Eastern Orthodox cathedral and seat of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, except between 1204 and 1261, when it was converted to a Roman Catholic cathedral under the Latin Empire. The building was a mosque from 29 May 1453 until 1931. It was then secularized and opened as a museum on 1 February 1935." Wikipedia, Hagia Sophia
We walked over from the Hagia Sophia. It was uphill part of the way and about a three quarter walk. Mrs. Jim bought a purse, Karen got herself a fez and a small dish, and KP now has a new wooden yoyo, the old fashioned kind.
The second link above said the Bazaar had 22 entrances but we had a hard time finding even one when it was time for us to go. Our next stop was MacDonald's for lunch.
.
The carts are different ones selling different food items. I like to eat off the street but here we did only at the MacDonald's, not counting KP's ice cream earlier at from a little shop by the mosques.
Four: After eating at MacDonald's, Karen and KP took the tram back to the ship. Mrs. Jim and I strolled back down to the mosque area. We both wanted to see the Basilica Cistern. We only saw the outside because they charged a pretty high fee to go inside. Plus the queue was quite long. [click on picture for larger size]
.
.
Doing that also meant we were able for the next to last time to observe Istanbul on both sides from the river (we had done this previously on our palace and river cruise combo excursion).
.
KP is dressed here in a costume she and the rest of the kids in the Kids Club had made earlier in the morning.
We enjoyed our morning outing on our own. Mrs. Jim and I stayed a bit longer to see the cistern and the outside of another palace.
When we came back the first tram we caught did not go all the way across the Bosporus River to where our ship was docked out in the Strait. So we had to ride back up to another stop where the correct tram also departed. Then there was no problem.
This ends my writing of our Istanbul/Constantinople two days. Also on this day I am posting about the Cats of Constantinople like I did the Dogs a couple of weeks ago.
Next will be telling of our day outing in Bulgaria. On our own, again no paid excursion there for us.

Friday’s Hunt v 1.11 -- "K" is for ...
1. Starts with "K" -- Kick, KP, and Kansas.
1.a. I will choose KP first. KP is our youngest grandchild who lives about a half mile away since we moved. We walk with her to school, first grade when both her parents have to be at work fairly early.
KP also most always has us take her to gymnastic class because it is too early for either of the kids to take her. Then we eat at MacDonald's before we take her home. MacDonald's is close to our home also.
These pictures I took while we were shopping with her mom and Mrs. Jim. KP and I had found all we wanted to look at. She had found this stuffed dog and was sitting quietly in the chair until she saw me focusing the camera. I caught her just leaving, not posed.
You can see how ever many posts about KP as your browser will allow on one page by clicking on the "KP" link below.
The second picture she did let me take. I think that she wanted me to buy the dog for her but that didn't happen.
1. b. Kick is for the Eagles song, Kick 'em when theyre up, kick 'em when they're down. The real name is Dirty Laundry and is dedicated to Rupert Murdoch (Wikipedia Link). We don't watch the Fox TV channel except for the O'Reilly Factor and our local Fox Broadcast Channel 26 for non-network news.
2. Week's Favorite was our Sunday church service for Go Texan to help celebrate the beginning of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. We were supposed to dress Western, mine would have been jeans and a golf shirt, not really western. Mrs. Jim did dress Western.
The choir and singers and players were dressed very nicely. We had guitars, a harmonica (mouth harp), fiddles, a banjo, and a steel guitar besides the keyboard.
My Valentine doesn't get flowers, she gets a Valentine Card and a Box of Whitman Sampler candy. Every year for 43 years, I don't think we want to change now.
Besides, a Sunday school teacher, the preacher's wife, once told our class, "Candy's dandy but liquor is quicker." I think she wished she hadn't said that, we had no discussion on that remark. But I won't ever forget it, Bless her.
3.b. Flower - a Confederate Rose
One gave us this flower from her bush. She calls it a Confederate Rose. Mary took some blooms and also a couple of cuttings.
You may know more about Confederate Roses than they do. I don't think they are real roses. (Wikipedia says, "Hibiscus mutabilis, also known as the Confederate rose or the cotton rosemallow, is a plant noted for its flowers."

The Fine Print:
- Teresa of Eden Hills is running this meme, Friday's Hunt. She has three alternatives for us to post about but this one, Alphabet series, will be the one I will try to follow and post about. - Her rules are: "Welcome to linkup for Friday’s Hunt. It’s very simple. Anyone can participate. The link opens at 7pm Central time and will close Sunday at 7pm, so you have plenty of time to enter."
- The Mr. Linky address here has a list of others who are participating if you would to read what these folk are doing for the Friday post

Fun things to do at the Woodlands, Houston, Mall — MidWeek Blues —
Click on any picture for a larger size view. Your back button gets back to here.
We had a fun couple of hours or so to spend at the Woodlands, Houston, Mall (link) the other afternoon. Karen, Billy, and KP have been visiting us and Mrs. Jim had a need to run to the mall. It is twenty-seven miles and forty minutes towards Houston from our home. We ended up doing three fun things.
The first fun item was to visit the Disney Store. We wanted to see KP when she saw all the Mickey Mouse stuff there. That was Mrs. Jim's purpose in our coming to the Mall.
.
Here she is just after giving Minnie Mouse a big hug. Of course Mickey came first but my picture of Mickey and KP only has her holding hold of Mickey's hand.
.
And then NOBODY leaves the Disney Store without spending money. We bought a organic cotton tee shirt and a pair of Mickey Mouse flip-flops.
.
Second on our list was to eat. After a little thinking and talking we picked Wendy's at the food court. I like Wendy's because they have free drinks for the seniors (a few offer a 10% discount instead). Mrs. Jim and KP had a vanilla Frosty of which KP drank most of it. I had a chocolate Frosty all by my self. They were both the small size.
.
Also Mrs. Jim and I each had a Crispy Chicken Sandwich with lettuce but "hold-the-mayo" with a serving of BBQ sauce on the side. We shared a small order of French fries. Our free drinks were senior sized (small) Diet Cokes.
.
This was a fine meal for three at the cost of one for two. We did get everything off the 'Value Meal' menu for reduced sizes and costs.
.
We all decided that Wendy's should take lessons from MacDonald's in making French fries. MacDonald's definitely are the best FF's, Wendy's were probably the worst. In fact I will remember that and stay away from them next time. Generally we do not have fries but with KP we decided for the variation.
.
KP loved her ride. We were pleasantly surprised too. This Merry-Go-Round ride is the best bargain in Houston as it only cost ONE DOLLAR for KP and Mrs. Jim was free.
.
Since this was a good thing, it had to end. KP definitely was not ready for it to stop even though I suppose her ride lasted at least five minutes. It was LONG!
.
The party was not for us but the food court was decked out for a party. I am not sure which restaurant was hosting.
.
Oh yes, Since KP liked her Carousel ride so much and it was at a bargain price we all decided that one more ride with be one more good thing. This time KP opted for the green frog (it had a blue riding blanket for the MW Blues post).
.
This time she didn't cry when it was over and she had to leave. But she did leave one tired little girl. The grandparents were almost that tired too.
