Thursday Memes -- Things in a row -- Two Questions

I had a dental appointment last Thursday (Did I get all your comments answered? I am sorry if I didn't. You will have priority this time!). My appointment was in Huntsville, Texas, about 35 miles to the north of us.Mrs. Jim agreed to come with me and we would have lunch after my appointment and then we would mess around for a bit after that. For lunch, off the lunch menu, Mrs. Jim ordered a shrimp poboy and I ordered a crawfish poboy. Then we shared. Both came with lots of fries and I had a very nice dinner salad. It was all very delicious. No pictures but here is their link. Bob Luby's Seafood Grill
After lunch we went to some antique shops on Main Street. I always like the toy sections of those stores. They are always arranged so nicely, generally in rows like these. On the way back I took the court house picture for its rows and then the historic marker for its rows of printing. Click on it to make it big enough to read.
We spent a couple of hours in the stores and driving around a little. Then on the way home I went into the grocery store to pick up the special on Blue Bell ice cream. (visit to Blue Bell link)

Last week we answered questions about our organized eating affairs and favorite foods. Many of you said organized eating wasn't something you would be able to do at this time. I would recommend that you try some of this when you have more time. Mrs. Jim and I have the luxury of being retired and living in a community with others who have a lot of time on our hands. Your favorite foods all sounded really good to me!
My Two Questions for this week:

1. Do you take the rest of the day off for yourself after a doctor or dentist appointment? If so, what do you like to do?
.
Besides what I mentioned doing with Mrs. Jim I like to go for a nice ride taking the long way home. That is specially nice on the spring and fall days when I can put the top down on my Mustang.
.
2. Where do you like to just go to the store without necessarily buying anything?
.
In addition to the antique stores I like to visit the hardware and electronic stores. The library is fine too. Ocassionally I purchase a used book from the 'Friends of the Library' group.

Bonus Question: Do you get your dog's teeth cleaned?

Bonus Question: Do you get your dog's teeth cleaned?
That isn't easy or cheap anymore. The dogs need a pre-cleaning checkup including an EKG. Our two dogs were well over $200. I wonder if doggy medical insurance covers teeth cleaning?

~~ Friday’s Hunt v.2.19 -- "S" is for ...
Friday's Hunt for the week of November 4th is: (1) Starts with S; (2) Week's Favorite; and (3) Amazing
2. Week's Favorite: Cousins, Mary and Mrs. Jim
Picture was taken at Mary's church after the service. They were having a fund raiser for the "Clothes Closet" for the needy.
Our menu was Chili Dogs, a salad, and chips. Oh yes, a piece of cake and a cookie as a part of the Baby Shower in the room next. Mrs. Jim bought our and five for others not so lucky as we.
1. Starts with "S": Steamboat Bill's ~~ Last week I was late for sign-in as we were in Louisiana visiting our cousin, Mary. Mary is 93 years old but still gets around fine, and drives.
Mary had gotten us tickets for the Sandy Patty Concert being presented in her church.
Going over Friday afternoon, we decided to stop at Steamboat Bill's, a Cajun Seafood restaurant in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on I-10. (The little guy in the little tub was stationed at the men's restroom entrance.)
We shared a fish poboy and each had a pistolette (Google search link). Mine was crawfish and Mrs. Jim's was shrimp. These have been cooked in an étouffée (Google search link) mixture and poured into a special pastry made just for pistolettes.
3a. Amazing: I thought that the makeup resemblance of these two was amazing: (KP's and that of the cover picture Amazon young lady's).
KP likes to go to Children's Night at our local McDonalds. This is a weekly feature, one of the things she really likes is getting her face painted. Here she is an Indian Princess. We all like Thursday nights, Happy Meals for KP are $1.99 then.
3b. Amazing: I find it amazing that one of these creatures in my picture above would stay put for the most of the day: Guess which one?

Answer: Not the man walking. It is the white bird, an egret I think, at the edge of the pond. It will stay all day looking for a fish. Most of the time a fish won't show up but I often see it grabbing something passing by. The little lake/pond empties as it is a part of our drainage system for flood control.

Weekend Roundup -- 15-18(b) (for letter "O") -- Reflections too
The 41st issue of Weekend Roundup for this year...
The week's prompts:

(1) Starts with "O": Oldsmobile starts with "O". Here in the lower left is the bumper of a 1981 Olds Cutlass. We had one of these and after we used it for many, many miles we sold it for $200 to a young couple. It was exactly, color scheme and all, like the one pictured on the right, here is linked a source for more, (since we've had two more Olds, later models)(Oldsmobile is no more, it was killed during General Motors Bankruptcy proceedings), "https://www.wallpaperup.com/571084/1981_Oldsmobile_Cutlass_Calais.html ".
(2) A Favorite: One favorite sandwich is an Oyster Poboy. This is half my order of an Oyster Poboy and Onion Rings. These are cooked Louisiana style in Alexandria, Louisiana, where we went last weekend for Mrs. Jim's family reunion. Mrs. Jim and I shared the order, there were eleven fairly large fried oysters on the whole thing.
Another of my favorites is the Fried Onion Rings but I hardly ever eat them now. I just eat the rings raw. Same fiber and nutrition without the fat in the frying.
(3) Open: "Open" these doors, please. I want to see what lies behind. (There is an open upper window in the yellow house.)
These house were around the corner from Pablo Neruda's home at Valparaiso, Chile. We shared a taxi with another lady and drove all over town, for a whole afternoon [for that afternoon go to (4) in my last season's post, click here].
(4) Reflections: This Reflection is sort of rippley, it was taken at the Harbor at La Serenta, Chile. Some went from there to excursions at Coquimbo but we stayed at the Harbor town and did not go on. I loved the Overturned boat, now a day resting place for the BTW, this is the Atlantic Ocean nestling in at the cove.

[One] These kittens were running "wild" atop the little mountain at a monastery stop in Meteora, Greece.
Our ship was docked in Volos, Greece, and we had bussed up to here. Oh, yes, there was a little climb for visiting these.

[(still) One] The last picture shows where we were.
[Two] I celebrated my birthday this week with the help of friends, family, and Mrs. Jim. My birthday was October 30 but our family spreads the birthday stuff out for a few or many days. Above was on the 29th, when we played Texas 42 with these friends. Our host had baked a birthday cake for me.
[Three] Some of the family joined me for supper on the 30th at our local Papadeaux Seafood Kitchen restaurant. I had a fried catfish poboy, a salad, and cheesecake. My grandson-in-law took the picture. His wife (my oldest of four granddaughters), the next oldest granddaughter, my youngest son (he is single, ladies), a great-granddaughter, Mrs. Jim, and my older daughter all came to help.
[Four] On the 31st, Halloween Day, I drove a friend to his doctor's appointment in the Woodlands. He was not allowed to drive as he had a pacemaker installed during the weekend after having a heart attack.
On the way home we stopped to check on his toy (an airplane, not pictured) and a hanger he is building. This toy, a 1928 Piper Cub, belongs to a friend. His other toys were two more airplanes, three antique cars, and an old motorcycle.
[Five] That evening, the 31st, we went to the University of Houston(stats and schedule)/South Florida University football game. My Houston team won, 35-26. They now have seven wins with one loss (7-1).
Mrs. Jim treated me to the game for my birthday. It was very festive due to it being Halloween night. Many of the spectators Houston college performers and help were in costume. There were several categories for costume dress.
Held at Reliant Stadium in Houston, the stadium is also home to the Houston Texans. There was some concern that we might not be able to get into due to the heavy rains we had on the 30th and 31st. But it had stopped by game time and we weaved through the streets that were open. Some neighbors where we live measured over seven inches.

Six Word Saturday

The weekend we are eating Cajun/Louisiana food in Baton Rouge with cousins here in Louisiana.
But I forgot my camera or there would have been pictures of our meal. So you get to see a 'fill-picture' of a nice salad like I sometimes eat. Tonight the only salad was lettuce and tomato in my shrimp poboy sandwich.

When the Storm Comes

Our storm this week is Hurricane Gustave. We were in Baton Rouge for the LSU/Appalachian State Football game Saturday (8-30-08). We are LSU fans, Mrs. Jim is a [Geaux (LSU)] Tiger. GEAUX TIGERS!
We won 41 to 13. I wish LSU had run the score up but they are an honorable team and they don't do that. Instead they let practically the whole team play when they get comfortably ahead.
We had very good south end zone tickets, on the fifth row.

Mike The Tiger is the LSU Mascot. He is rather young and here is liking his nap. I like my naps too! And I don't even have a $1 Million home to nap in.

After a very nice Cajun meal and a nice goodbye to Mrs. Jim's Baton Rouge widow cousin, we joined the New Orleans evacuation team. It turned out that I-10 West out of Baton Rouge was not crowded at all, the N.O. people wanted to go north, not west.
Before Lake Charles, Louisiana, we departed and took the lesser-traveled back roads. This morning we found out it was taking twelve (12) hours to travel from Lake Charles on to Houston. Our travel time was a total of seven hours with about one hours worth of stops for gas and a snack at McDonald's.

My plate: half of Mrs. Jim's shrimp poboy (link) and half of my fried catfish dinner. Missing? Yes, Brew Baker's does not have hush puppies. And today they were out of oysters already. But it was still all good. Mrs. Jim's cousin took half her catfish home in a doggy box for another day's eating.
Yes, God was good to us on this trip. We escaped the storm, avoided most of the horrible evacuation traffic, and saw us home safely in the middle of the night.
I believe this whole trip was enriched by realizing how good our God is, even during the storms. Just like the Disciples in the storm on Lake Galilee, Jesus had provided. Each had a basket of leftover fishes and loaves there with them in the boat (Matthew 14:20) But when they called Jesus, he even stopped the storm for them. (Jesus Walks on the Water)
We are enlarged by the storms when we can realize how good God is to us, even when the storms of life seem insurmountable.

Weekend Roundup with "L"; Little, Long, and Last

(B) A Favorite, (also Long) today: This is KP, our youngest (of four) granddaughters. She has just finished making a batch of SLIME at our house and was checking it out. I was FINE, really stretching LONG.
(C) Long: This is the U.S. Highway 90 Long Bridge over the Achaffalia (flood) Resevoir coming from Baton Rouge. Last week I posted from a McDonald's there. The bridge is miles and miles long, there is a modern bridge south a few miles on Interstate 10.

This is my second Louisiana picture today, it is what we see after leaving the U.S. Hwy 90 Long Bridge, a Long stretch of Oak Trees.
(D) Reflection(s): I took this nice Reflection picture Last Saturday morning. I had just purchased a dozen donut holes for KP (youngest grandchild) and was parked in front of the Kolache place. I know, last week's Friday word needed to start with the Kolache "K".
The lake was full, on level with our road after a big rain bringing some flooding. [click on picture for larger viewing]
We bought it here. Seating was ground level in the Little building, pictured in the forefront but we ate in our car. We ordered and they cooked in an elevated room in the darkened area behind. The steps you see at the left lead to this comes-in-handy restroom. Grading the restroom, I would be generous and give it a seven out of ten.
