A doggoned googleganger! A Jim Bunch interferance has surfaced!
Life can be the pits, can't it! Now this.
My Jim Bunch has honest to goodness googlegangers!
"Who, what, and where," you should ask.
Who: (who are the googlegangers?) Jim Bunch, that's who. Not one, but several. They can be pests but I suppose we should try to co-exist. That's the only Christian thing to do. The main three Jim B**ch's are detailed below:
1. The Jim Bunch Eats. (link) That's my eating group, consisting of my family and friends. Five of them are pictured above, with Mrs. Jim leading this pack.
Don't they look like they have just finished a hearty meal?
Yes, they did. Mrs. Jim's Sunday school class (it has over 120 members) small group ate yesterday in Jane and Dick's home. Nine of this Jim Bunch were there.
2. Think Rich Club members only for this one (link). Downside here is that I'm not a member and really don't want to be, so I don't know any more about this Jim B**ch.
I think he sells things, like books.
3. Then there's Jim B**ch of the Omidyar Network. (link) His activity has slowed down lately.
What: (what is a googleganger?)
A googleganger is another individual with the same name as you whose records and/or stories are mixed in with your own when you Google yourself. Urban Dictionary definition link
Where: All over the Internet, that's where. Google Jim Bunch quickly. Lately this Number Two Jim B**ch has been showing up. I wonder how many books he sells?

1. Doppleganger, Urban dictionary: A misspelling of the German, "doppelganger", roughly translates as "evil twin". (link)

We say goodbye to Iowa. And goodbye to Jim and Lois. Next is hello to Nebraska. Then hello to Texas, our home sweet home
.Adi is posing with her aunt and uncle for a goodbye picture. We enjoyed staying with Lois and Jim (my sister and bro-in-law). You have seen most of our local tours.
I missed getting a picture for the Jim Bunch Eating again the night before we left. Jim grilled hamburgers and brats. I had one of each. Lois had made some nice cherry bars for dessert. Of course we had all the other goodies, like potato salad, beans, cottage cheese, and chips and pickles of all sorts.
You have already seen the Tekamah, Nebraska, evening. The Jim Bunch did eat there, all four "J" cousins. (link)

On our last full day in Iowa, we visited the Amana Colonies again, at Amana, Iowa. We all voted (the three that got to vote, Adi couldn't, and Jim was nice and would go wherever we wanted) to do some antiquing.
The antique place would be Smokehouse Square Antiques showroom and sales. I enjoyed that almost as much as the ladies. No money was left at the store that day, but there were some desirables for each of us.

After the antique shopping, we got an early start on lunch. Here are three of the four Jim Bunch Eats guys. The Ox Yoke Inn is Jim and Lois' fav. Lois and I had a plate of delicious ribs, Mrs. Jim had veal, and Jim (bro-in-law)had steak.
Our first course was cottage cheese and sauerkraut, complete with freshly baked bread. The entree was served with mashed potatoes with brown gravy and fresh corn, both served family style as was the previous cheese and kraut offering.
Dessert was pie, each of us had a different selection. Mrs. Jim had rhubarb, Jim (bro-in-law) had banana creme, Lois had lemon, and I had coconut creme. They were all excellent.

After lunch, I went to the visitor center. It wasn't very exciting, but the climb to the top of the cupola had me puffing. The building had formerly been a granary.
The climb was well worth it, here is one of the pictures of the Amana Colonies I took from the windows up there. It wasn't raining, the picture was taken through a glass window its screen for the effects you see here.

I was glad once more that I had gotten my worn-out foot toughened by walking around Europe this spring. The blocks were long and the temp was warm, in the mid 80s. This was taken from the corner across from the visitor center. The Ox Yoke is up the street on the left, beyond what you see.

Now most guys get a little tired, emotionally, not physically, of all that shopping. Pretty soon one handicraft looks like another handicraft and we can't tell rhubarb wine from grape or gingham from suede.
There is a relief at Amana though. I don't remember this shop's name, its top floor, the attic, was turned into a farm room. They had sold out of John Deere "Bs" which was our first farm tractor in 1942. I have been looking for one; they show up on eBay, I just haven't bought one yet. (My last eBay purchase was a 1948 Ford Convertible, 1:18 scale.)

You might think this was in the farm room but these toys are at Dad's nursing home. We stopped in to tell him goodbye. Lois had brought him some chocolate stars and we all indulged. Big Jim and Little Jim Bunch here eating another time, how about that?
Aren't those nice trucks? The Red Hat ladies and the Construction Guys (they gave Dad his hard hat)(July 24 posting) made toys for a fundraiser.
The residents helped too. The day before we had watched one of the men residents painting the trucks and the benches. He was doing a good job, I didn't know they would turn out this nice.
. Do you think Adi is sad because she is leaving Iowa?

The Jim Bunch Eats Again -- It's Jim's Birthday III
.Mrs. Jim treated me to lunch at our local Applebee's at Conroe (link) today. It was delicious. They even gave me this blue balloon because it was my birthday. Opposite us with those other balloons were several small children and moms. [click on picture for full screen].

Mrs. Jim had the very tasty SANTA FE CHICKEN SALAD (link) The half salad size was plenty for her, I even had a few bites. *** A word of caution though, put the dressing 'on the side' as it was literally drowned in dressing. ***

.I had the CAJUN LIME TILAPIA (link) with its 310 calories and 6 grams of fat. Sounds like I'm getting with my diet in a big way! It was delicious, Mrs. Jim had a few bites of that too..
.
Ok, with the balloon request came a surprise a little later. All the wait staff showed up to sing Happy Birthday. There were twice as many as you can see here. And I had to stand up in my chair for the world to watch..

Then my diet went bye-bye. With the singing group came this delicious chocolate sundae with whip cream and cherry!
I was feeling pretty good about that, probably that free sundae was the reason I would condescend to stand.

All was well and fine. I got the bill and it seemed a little high. A good look showed (no, there wasn't a charge for the singing wait staff group) a charge of $2.99 for my sundae!
At first I was mortified, but Mrs. Jim calmed me down some. Then we both decided that the waitress was so nice that we would just overlook this and pay up as billed.
I don't know if the 'birthday sundae' is supposed to be free or not. We surely didn't ask for it or the singers, just a little blue balloon.

A little antiquing going on

You would think the women would like this a lot, but friend John made the only purchase. This old trunk for the package rack on his 1936 Ford Roadster had a price tag of $85.00; John haggled them down to $70.00.
I went with brother-in-law, Royce, in Mom's 1974 Ford Mustang II. Mrs. Jim and my sister-in-law were helping with Mema so they didn't go. We ate [Texas] chicken fried steak and the trimings--the Jim Bunch eats again--then we headed back to the hospital.

. This road grader saleman's model road grader wasn't in any of the stores. I saw it on the Antiques Road Show last night. It was appraised at between $6,000 and $8,000 as it was in very fine shape. The sample case sure was worn.
The grader caught my attention because Dad had the real thing on his farm. At first it was horse(s) drawn but latter he modified it so it could be pulled behind his tractor. It would clear the lane of a medium snow and grade the spring ruts out too.
Probably it paid for itself as Dad would help Grandpa on his road contracts. Grandpa had a couple of side businesses besides his farming. One was doing road work and keeping the ditches mowed. Grandpa's other pursuit was breeding horses. He always had at least one stud horse that was in much demand. The day my sister was born Grandpa and I went on a stud horse mission.
I don't know at all how many farms we visited then but it was fun just going around with Grandpa. I like to think I was his favorite grandson.

The Windmill Raising by the Dirty Dozen
.Here we have progress. A bunch of us guys got together to raise this windmill. We did fine as you see here. That was last month.
My friend, John, found it in Kansas and wanted it for his front yard. He brought it home in pieces and now has it semi-restored and ready.
The aeromotor still needed a little work but it would be raised up soon after John did a little bit more work. Mrs. John wanted to get a bucket truck over to hoist it up, John favored having us guys do the work.

.Last week the crew assembled to do the work. Mrs. John had lost out all the way. John had taken the windmill tower down and put things together on the ground. Now we were to raise it again, this time complete and ready to run. Just add oil.
The Dirty Dozen crew from left to right: John, me (Jim), Milton, Jim (not me), Gene, Paul, Chuck, Bill, Dick (kneeling), Jim (still another), Ray, and Robert. All of us are set to man our posts..
.In John's mind, this is what things should look like when the job is done.
Actually I think the rider and horse enhance the situation a little. John has an old Ford tractor but no horse. Even the water tank adds to the scheme of things. .
.Well, that didn't happen. With the motor attached it was too heavy for the rope lift John had rigged in the tree. Things started buckling and sliding.
.
.So we just left it like this and had coffee with breakfast and talked.
Never fear, a crew is coming around 9:00 today and we will get it raised. John has straightened and rebuilt.
Going for him the most is that John has arranged for a bucket truck to raise it all up, motor and tower all at the same time.

Magic Printing Machine -- Jim Bunch Eats
This is the magic machine that types large print. Did you ever know how it was done?
Get you an old typing machine and set it for font size 168. Then use the color tab and set letters to white and background to burnt red.
Use two fingers, one for each side of the keyboard and choose the letter or character you want to print.
Now, here is the tricky part. You can't just push that little button like you do on your lap top. Not the gentle stroking we have become accustomed to. No, you have to strike it rapidly and with some exertion. Briskly striking might be more understandable.
Here you see the finished product, my student learned well. She needs a reward. What say the Jim Bunch will eat?

We had a happy Sunday -- The Jim Bunch eats again, then we went to the City of Houston Herman Park for a while
[large picture] [super size]Son Tim e-mailed the Jim Bunch last week to have a get-together at Niko Niko's Greek Restaurant. Megan was coming home from Austin. She is graduating from the University of Texas this May with a Masters Degree in Accounting.
That is pretty good, she did it all in five years with extremely good grades. And never once did she change her major. [Her Grandpa Jim changed his three times at the University of Nebraska and three times at the University of Houston, just in getting his bachelor degree.]
At the end here, are Megan and her boy friend, James. We all like James.

Missing were grandkids, Tim and Renee (live out of town) and BP (she had other places to be), then kids Karen, Billy, Mitch, Carmen, and Mike. A couple of kids were working, three were playing golf.

After lunch, Mrs. Jim and I drove over to the 445-acre (1.80 km²) Herman Park (link 01)(link 02).
Everyone is proud of the new Herman Park Train. We haven't ridden this one but sure did ride the other one, a lot. Kids and grandkids all liked it when they were young. Mrs. Jim and BP rode that old one just this winter.

The Herman Park has a really nice Japanese Garden too! We didn't get to stay long there because it closes at 5:00 PM until summer time. (link)

The bridge and pond above remind me of Monet's works at Giverny. Mrs. Jim and I want to go there before we get too old for things like that.

There is the Museum of Natural Science, the Cockrell Butterfly Center (link), a planetarium, and a very nice IMAX Theatre if you want to stay cool in the air conditioning.

Walking to the Museum, we saw this orange flowering fruit tree in bloom (in the center of the picture).

The steps here are in front of the Museum. They lead to a huge sun dial where there are always a bunch of kids playing something similar to hopscotch among the numbers.
What we didn't see were the 4500 animal Houston Zoo (at Herman Park)(you gotta see this link to the zoo and all other attractions at Herman Park, the Miller Outdoor Theatre, and the 18-hole Herman Park Golf Course (click here for a free round of golf).
All three of these are Houston Texas size, that means real big(!!). If you haven't been there, please visit the Wikipedia article, you will be impressed. Come visit us and I promise we can go there!

The Ingredients:
One cup of coffee, black and straight.
The cup? It's a Christmas present from my barber lady.
Pill bottle, for a pill at mid-morning,** 'eat with food.' [This stuff, Tricor, works on digestive juices.]
The snack, it's Jim's favorite, crackers and peanut butter. These are low fat, I prefer no fat. Why are they broken, and what happened to the corner and edge pieces? Go here (link) to see.

To Bob Barker: This is his last day on his show, The Price Is Right. he has been hosting this TV game show since 1972, for 35 years. (link). Did you know he went to Drury College in Springfield, Missouri, on a basketball scholarship? (CBS link to Barker bio--I have a degree in economics too!)
To Ruth Bell Graham: She died yesterday at age 87. She will always be remembered as the "life partner" of famous evangelist, Billy Graham.(CBN News link to Mrs. Graham bio) In her own right, Mrs. Graham authored some very enlightening books. There were over 50 of them that she authored or co-authored. I quit counting, some were listed more than once, etc.(link)

** I take three pills and three vitamins in the morning with a graham cracker; this one, a Tricor at mid-morning with a snack; three pills with noon meal; five secret ingredient pills at mid-day with a graham cracker; three more pills and another vitamin "C" with the evening meal; an aspirin at least a half hour before bedtime; and two more pills at bedtime.
*** Notice in this picture I did use a mouse and this mouse pad with the lap top. It works just as good in the recliner using the arm of the chair (protecter piece in place) without the mouse pad.

The Jim Bunch Eats -- Ruby (Red) Tuesday -- at a zero-star restaurant
The RED LETTERS on that sign say "DOWN HOME COOKING."
The Jim Bunch went to eat in their old cars again last Thursday. We went to this little restaurant on US Hwy 190 out east of Huntsville, Texas, about eight miles.
You have to remember we are a Texas Bunch when you look at the pictures. Dress was "every day go to town" clothes.
The food was supposed to be good and people came all the way out from Huntsville to eat lunch. The place was crowded, but about a third were from our club. We had four of these long tables.
I said 'supposed to be good,' I really don't like brown gravy on my ribs. I am not sure they were even ribs as there weren't any rib bones. I had ribs with gravy (couldn't get them any other way), green beans, and cooked (still a little on the raw side) squash. And a piece of cornbread and a VERY SMALL side dish of raspberry cobbler for desert.
It wasn't the food that got the zero-star rating. The food was about a one and a half-star. It didn't make me sick but sure did fill me up, too full.
This was a (RED) sign to come. It says "Restrooms are out of order." Yet they were open and ready for use. There weren't any towels or T.P. I missed the sign and the tools and napkins to take in with me. I always wash, then when no towels I dry my hands on my jeans.
Uugh!
For sure a zero-star rating, nothing worked!
Some more of the Jim Bunch. Mrs. Jim couldn't come, she had a Canasta with the ladies thing on her schedule.
On the right are a few of the old Fords. More were on the side of the gravel parking lot. I took my '98 Mustang Convertible. I had the top down until after lunch. It got hot outside while we were inside.
